A good friend of mine posted a video showing a bar that made a cocktail similar to this. I took the idea and added a few modifications to present Flower Pot BAM - Granola & Nut-milk.

This simple, fun and visual BAM makes everyone want granola any time of day.

Easy to make and many varieties to choose from with KitchFix granola. I love that you have it delivered right to your door via Amazon making it easy to say bye, bye to sugar free unhealthy morning foods. Adding a cute presentation element like a flower pot every member of your family will be begging for this in the morning.

Flower Pot BAM - Granola & Nutmilk

Total Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • Flower pot

  • Mason Jar & straw lid

  • Metal Straw

  • KitchFix Granola

  • Nut-milk

  • Fresh Rosemary

  • Optional - cup of brewed coffee & plastic zip lock bag

Directions

  • Place mason jar or plastic zip lock bag filled with nut-milk into flower pot.

  • Place straw through lid hole.

  • Cover and fill flower pot with granola until covered to top.

  • Add rosemary sprig to center and serve with a spoon.

  • Optional - brewed coffee added to nut-milk

Drink a sip of the milk and a spoonful of granola.

Simply a fun and delicious morning start!

Dear Base Culture,

Thank you for creating a product line that answers my prayers on so many levels. Not going to lie it was a hard reality to overcome the thought of sandwiches , brownies and breakfast breads leaving my life once I adopted a Paleo lifestyle.

Base Culture thank you for being a company I trust using only the finest ingredients.

I can’t decide if I like the Sweet Banana Bread the best or the Nutty Pumpkin Bread. Each time I have one I think that is my favorite. Quality problem to have. I love having them on hand for anytime of day. Keeping a few in the freezer at all times a must for this gal. Best part is they only take a few minutes to thaw out which I love. Not going to lie sometimes I add a pat of butter or non-dairy cream cheese for an added BAM, but most often I am right out of the wrapper girl.

I sometimes add a side of berries for a wonderful meal that’s quick and easy.

Thank you for bringing sandwiches back into my life too. Having both Keto and Paleo options create the space for me to have a sandwich pretty much daily just like my pre-paleo days. This not only is a dream come true, but it helps me to be able to share my eating style with my family without objection. No one is refusing a sandwich which is a huge win!

Nut butters have become such a huge staple in my Paleo life.

They are a good source of fat and protein. I am a fan of raw nut butters and prefer a more chunky texture. I simply love all of them and once again struggle to pick a favorite.

Expo West 2018 Hot Products Round Up

I have to say having Expo. West and the time change happen in the same week almost did me in. Still recovering and hence the delay in getting this blog post done.

I spent 4 days at Expo and still did not see everything. Heck I was not even able to say hi to the vendors I already know and love let alone new companies. I am grateful to have had 2 early morning strolls that allowed me to cover a lot of ground where I caught quite a few products I am tickled pink to see.

TOP PICKS FROM EXPO WEST 2018:

  • Zevia Tea:  My good friends at Zevia just introduced an organic ready to drink tea line. Like all Zevia products, these items are sweetened with stevia, and contain zero sugar. In addition, Zevia Organic Teas are non-carbonated, non-GMO, brewed with Fair Trade Certified Tea, and will carry the USDA Organic seal. The flavors include Black Tea, Green Tea and herbal flavors, featuring two caffeine-free options. BAM.
  • Nutiva: Boy did Nutiva blow me away with the new MCT Powder. The 1st of its kind and quite delicious if I do say so myself. I love this and Nutiva made the MCT powder with those who have a sensitive stomach in mind. Many complain about MCT liquid being a little harsh on the tummy and this powered MCT has got you covered . Nutiva has included ingredients that help to minimize stomach upset making this a huge win. Looking forward to this coming out in April 2018.
  • Siete: I literally lost my mind when I tasted the cashew tortilla wrap. OMG they are delicious. Siete  also launched a chick pea wrap, but I am on team no chick pea so I did not taste. History leads me to believe it will be delicious. Now stand up and scream 'Hell Yes" Siete also announced new chips with ranch! Drops mic and walks off stage. BAM.
  • Bubba's Fine Foods: I love a good serving size pack and even more when I get to chose if I want bourbon vanilla un-granola, Nana chips or a savory original. Single serving size packs keep me from embarrassing myself and eating an entire bag in one sitting. Thank you Bubba's for helping a girl out with your cute little bags of YUM.
  • Abeego: Beeswax wraps rule. I love these and literally almost hugged the woman who is the CEO of this company. What a great way to say bye bye to plastic wrap and foils. These wraps are washable and last. They come in many different sizes. Side note: For vegans this will not work.
  • Further Food: Daily Turmeric Tonic is a must have for everyone. I added turmeric to my life a few years ago and in the last year have increased how much I consume 2 capsules daily and notice a great difference in inflammation. Further Foods Turmeric Tonic is tasty and a great way to say hello turmeric and feel special doing it. Trust me.
  • NutRaw: Pistachio milk for the win. I was giddy when I tasted this line and this company is all about anything pistachio. I could see this in my refrigerator on a monthly rotation. I love all the nut milk choices don't you? Not going to lie I really liked pistachio milk a lot.

If I had to pick my favorite product for 2018 it would be the beeswax wraps from Abeego. Not to discount the foods I mentioned because all of them are delicious game changers. The wraps are a narrative changer in the space many of us still hold many toxic habits. Wraps, foils and plastic containers are filled with all kind of toxic stuff and this not only creates the space for a conversation to happen it also offers a wonderful solution.

I am grateful for shows like Expo West for many reasons. Everyone under one roof makes life easy and I get to see people I love in one event.

PaleoFX 2017: New Products Round-Up

Just back from my 5th PaleoFX & excited to share the latest products that caught my eye.

I did not attend talks at this year's PaleoFX as I seem to find them geared toward those early in their journey & not offering new insights to me personally. I highly recommend a full pass for those just starting their conscious life & for others a trade show floor pass is sufficient to get a BAM from your time at this event.

Vendors did not disappoint at all. So many old friends & new make walking the exhibit floor a good time.

For those who like to break a sweat the show has tons to offer you as well. I did note many of the activities that in previous years were free are no longer & have price tags ranging from $25-$35 for each session. Not going to lie this broke my heart a bit because exhibitors give samples of their products all day long & I feel anyone that makes money doing what they taught in a class should offer it for free. My 2 cents for what it is worth.

Ancient Nutrition: Bone Broth Capsules

This is a BAM. I thought the dehydrated Bone Broth protein powder was huge& this takes it to an entirely different level. I am so excited to see this new addition to the line of products from my good friends at Ancient Nutrition. Their entire line I love & also includes individual serving packets, 30 serving tubs & now supplements. Can it get any better? Thanks Ancient Nutrition.

Eating Evolved: Keto Cups

These little BAM's are so key for me personally right now as I committed to giving up natural sugar (honey, maple syrup) forever. I am a true sugar addict & need to end the constant struggle once & for all. I have been on the search for a tasty alternative and these WIN! Check out that ingredient list too. All organic & all YUM!

Legit Bread Company: Sandwich Bread & Bagel Mix

Have not tried these new products from my friend Jennifer aka Predominately Paleo, but have them on the top of my list. Post after post others share their love of this product & I am ready to give it a go. Traveling for the tour makes it hard for me to cook breads, but I am hoping to share it with someone on the upcoming leg of my tour in exchange for use of their kitchen. Hang on for a tasty review in the near future. Jennifer's recipes have never disappointed so I am certain this will be a huge addition to any kitchen.

Guiltless Goodies: Skinny Donuts

I love a good chocolate iced donut like anybody else. Cannot remember the last time I had one until these yummy Paleo donuts entered my world. Love at 1st bite is my story. They are sold in a 6 pack and uber tasty. Reminds me of the old school Hostess donuts mom would buy however these will not kill you one bite at a time. All healthy ingredients with this line of donuts.

Malk Organics: Nut Milks

Finally a nut milk company not adding sugar to the entire product line. I hate that most organic coffee shops I go too offer nut or coconut milks with sugar added. Say what? It feels so opposite the message of the business I find myself walking out often not feeling like the owners are true to the mission. To me organic means consciousness & the ingredients of the products you serve should have a conscious lens also. Hoping to someday find this line served in most coffee shops. I tasted each of their milks falling in love with each sip. They even offer a cold brew so check them out.

Picnik: Butter Coffee

Words cannot describe the love affair I have with Picnik. This place has meant so much to me in my conscious life since day one when I ate at the little trailer on S. Lamar. It was the 1st time I ate out or anywhere that supported 100% my lifestyle. Never will I forget the joy in this experience. Since than every time I am in Austin you can find me at Picnik daily. The food, staff & owner are a huge reason Picnik has grown to add another location which is a full restaurant offering breakfast, lunch and dinner/7 days a week. Taking life one step further Picnik now offerse buttered coffee to go and these are all delicious!  Dirty Chai is my favorite, but I love all of them. Literally delicious is all I can say. Try all of them to pick your favorite.

I hope you find the above helpful & know that each of these companies are filled with amazing individuals who produce products with a conscious. Having the pleasure of meeting them at PaleoFX & other shows throughout the year I can confirm that this community is a supportive, loving & conscious group whose main goal is to improve the lives of others through food. This was my "Bye Winter/Hello Spring" meal.

Made it up on the fly & it was freaking delicious.

Very good, easy & Paleo. What more can you ask?

APPLE BBQ PULLED TURKEY

  • Serving: 4 servings
  • Prep Time: 15 minutes
  • Cook Time: 10 hours

Ingredients:

  • 1 organic Turkey leg/breast combination
  • 1 can tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 5 small apples cored
  • 1 large red onion quartered
  • 2 small shallots
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Pink Himalayan sea salt
  • Fresh ground black pepper

Preparation:

  • Add paste and honey to saucepan mixing well heating slowly. Once combined add to top of turkey using a spoon or brush. Save remaining BBQ sauce.
  • Place apples, shallots & onions in crock-pot or dutch oven. Add meat on top with salt and pepper.
  • Next add vinegar to mixture. Break cinnamon stick and place on BBQ covered turkey.
  • Set for 10 hours on low. Do not add water.
  • When done mash apple, shallot & onion with hand masher after removing liquid.
  • Using a fork shred the turkey mixing with mash anding additional BBQ sauce if desired.
  • Enjoy & artichoke recipe here!

By: V Capaldi As Chef V for Cozymeal it has come to my attention that my Chia Pudding is a huge hit!  Class after class loves this super nutrient dessert that I had to take time to share the recipe.  Literally takes less than 15 minutes to make and is so delicious, elegant and good for you it blows my mind and it is my recipe. A real BAM!

Chocolate Chunk Chia Pudding w/ Whipped Cream & Date Drizzle

  • Diary & Sugar Free
  • Prep Time: 15 minutes
  • Serves: 6

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Take mason jar and add 1 can of coconut milk, water & vanilla. Using an immersion blender mix well.
  2. Next add Chia seeds mixing well using a spoon trying to remove any potential clumps.
  3. Once done mixing place lid on jar and dance around shaking the ingredients together. Why not? Don't be shy!
  4. Put remaining can of coconut milk in refrigerator & filled mason jar mixture for minimum of 4 hours.
  5. While you are waiting take chocolate bar and place in Cuisinart chopping to medium consistency. Different sizes of bite size pieces are the goal. Put aside when done.
  6. Right before serving take out can of chilled coconut milk removing the hard top layer. Place a little of the coconut water from can and to hardened coconut and using an immersion blender whip into a cream.
  7. When serving place chia pudding in bowl, sprinkle with cacao powder, top with 1 tablespoon of chocolate chunks, whipped cream and some date drizzle for a dessert you will have time & again.

By: V Capaldi I am doing my 1st Whole Life Challenge and loving it. 8 weeks of clean eating all in an effort to stop my addiction to honey.

Yes folks I have a honey addiction.

It used to be jars upon jars of honey. Now we have no longer maintained that level of addiction, but having honey in my diet often is not a good look for this body.

Yearly after the holiday honey feast I do a detox.  This year and probably next it is a Whole Life Challenge which means my lifestyle is clean and mean right now. However I still like to have an after dinner treat no matter how much I detox.

Here is my latest "go-to" treat that is sweet with nothing added beyond what mother nature puts in the fruit.

Simple and fun to make for the whole damn family. I like to set up a topping bar and let everyone have fun creating their favorite treats:

Apple Ahoy!

  • Serves 4
  • Prep Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

Directions:

  • Line tray with parchment paper.
  • Slice apples and set on trays.
  • Set up desired toppings in bowls.
  • Melt oil and chocolate together.
  • Drizzle melted mixture over apples adding desired toppings.
  • Place in refrigerator for minimum of 20 minutes and enjoy.

Are you kidding me my bedtime is 8pm. The role of chef is kicking it up at notch at 8pm. Still figuring this out.

For the last month through the company Cozymeal I have had the pleasure of sharing a Paleo kitchen with almost 100 people.  These engaging, interactive classes have been a whirlwind surprise, wonderful journey &  just plan fun.

As "Chef V" I specialize in corporate team building events and could not be happier.  The groups of community I get to engage with in this role are uplifting, inspiring and offer everyone an all around good time. In addition my years of building small companies and studies in community psychology offer a truly rich experience.

Most groups insist on a competition element which I LOVE!  Imagine if you will Iron Chef meets Survivor.

Each Corporate Team Building Cooking Class with Chef V includes:

As in life this role of "Chef " teaches me life lessons at every event.  The inspiration/lessons I am gaining in the kitchen with others is where I am feeling the most personal growth as " Chef V". Watching varied communities use ingredients in different ways, marrying things in a way and/or preparing in a way I never thought have been a strong personally full-filling part as a teaching chef with Cozymeal.

This week I was inspired by a client from The Four Seasons Hotel who participated in a team building cooking class with me. For years I have been dipping things in chocolate & adding ingredients to stick to the chocolate.  This weeks team simply melted & mixed everything together. This process created a different taste, texture and dessert using the same ingredients I had for years and it creating a tasty new dessert.  These delicious dipped strawberries won the competition!

The only negative comment was the dish was ugly. Straight up not pretty. Not going to lie. #damnit

Food has got to be pretty is my story.

So I thought all day yesterday and at some point yesterday found myself in the kitchen with this recipe in my mind. I will be damn if it is not tasty and gorgeous.

Simply perfect for holiday entertaining and SIMPLE!

Coconut Chocolate Pucks w/ Whipped Cream & Fresh Organic Berries

Sugar & Dairy FREE

Ingredients:

Directions:

  • Whip entire can of coconut milk and place in refrigerator overnight.
  • Melt all ingredients together except strawberries mixing well over low heat.
  • Using a cupcake pan or desired candy/ice tray or vessel of choice add mixture.  Line with coconut oil if not using a non-stick pan.
  • Place mixture in the refrigerator for 4 hours and pop out pucks when ready to serve.
  • It is recommended to let sit for about 5 minutes before popping out of vessel.
  • Place puck on serving dish, add a dollop of whipped coconut milk topped with berries and enjoy!
  • I pick up the puck and eat like a nut butter cup with whipped cream on top. So good. So good. So good.
  • Perfect to throw in your bag for mid-day yumfest is also a good look.

I love to add fennel this time of year to many dishes and now that I am known as "Chef V"working with Cozymeal I serve fennel a lot learning that for many it is their 1st experience eating this flavorful veggie.

Fennel is also used to make liqueur & how my family was known to get their fennel on.  Part of our charm!

It was a real treat to have it served as a side dish. Not a part of my family holiday traditions yet a part of my modern day holiday traditions. I like to include fennel to any holiday meal!

Roasted Fennel

Ingredients:

Preparation:

  • Heat oven to 400 degrees.
  • Remove stalks & cut bulbs into 1 inch lengthwise pieces or you can peel the bulb to create an almost chip
  • Coat in avocado oil & balsamic vinegar.
  • Add S&P to taste.
  • Line baking sheet w/ parchment paper
  • Place fennel on baking sheet.
  • Roast for about 45 minutes until desired.
  • It is recommended to allow the fennel to caramelize for best flavor!

Peppermint Dark Chocolate Berry Bark: Serves 4

Dark Chocolate has been my love for a long time. Although our holidays consisted of mostly cookies my grandmother would make baking Paleo is not my forte. Eating sweets I have been known to know a thing or two about! This treat is delicious & offers zero guilt! Easy to make & gets mad compliments!

Ingredients:

dark chocolate
dark chocolate

Preparation:

  • Melt entire bar of chocolate with coconut oil in saucepan very slowly being careful not to burn
  • Add dried berries
  • Add a dash of Sea Salt
  • Add 3 drops of peppermint essential oil
  • Mix all together
  • Lay parchment paper over baking sheet
  • Pour mixture over paper & spread evenly
  • Place in freezer & allow to get hard
  • After about 2 hours although overnight is best
  • Break into pieces & serve

Directions:

  • Day before making ice cream put one can of coconut milk in refrigerator
  • Take dark chocolate and grind in mini-cuisinart or desired kitchen aid.  (I like the consistency to be all different sizes so have fun with it.) Put aside.
  • Take a saucepan adding all ingredients except refrigerated coconut milk, oil and dark chocolate.
  • Heat over medium heat until blended.
  • Once blended put aside stirring in oil and let cool for 5 minutes.
  • Next add to loaf pan or container of choice.
  • Let sit for 30 minutes adding 1/2 of shaved chocolate mixing through.
  • Put in freezer and after 15 minutes sprinkle the remaining chocolate on top and freeze for up to 4 hours or overnight.
  • Before serving take refrigerated coconut milk and remove the top harder coconut milk part out leaving the fluid to drink later.
  • Take a hand mixer or submersion blender and whip until creamy.
  • Remove from freezer 15 minutes before serving adding a dollop of cream and a mint leaf on top.

How is that for a blog post title? Kinda sums up my life right now.  2 years ago this week I stood up for my beliefs and  person and made the decision to follow my heartand passion to lead a conscious life.  This gal said goodbye to the idea that healthcare is only for those who can afford it and embarked on a healthcare is self-care life.  In typical V fashion, November 2013 I jumped and decided to see if my Bag of Tricks was filled with enough tools to lead an empowered life.

Today the brand of PaleoBOSS Lady™ (PBL) shares tools of empowerment with over

50, 000 people daily & growing!

Happy 2nd Anniversary to PBL!

I could not be more excited, proud and certain of the direction the brand known as PaleoBOSS Lady™ is heading. Literally the movement is growing everyday with opportunities continuing to present themselves that continue to spread the PBL message in an accessible culturally relevant way.

The cultural norm is what the brand of PBL questions every day.  

A huge message of the brand is sharing with others how to change their narrative.  One narrative we would like to change is that 25% of children are taking medication in America.

PBL had the opportunity to be filmed for a movie that will share my life story. This film is set to release April 2016 in 1100 theaters worldwide and is beyond surreal.  During the filming I lived with Dr. Wahls & her family where she ntroduced me to a dessert that is simply out of this world: Squash Pudding.  This sugar and dairy free dessert was delicious and super easy to make.

Ingredients:

Directions:

  • Put one can of coconut in refrigerator for up to 4 hours with 24 being ideal.
  • Add all ingredients, but refrigerated coconut milk to Vitamix/blender of choice until creamy and mixed.
  • Add water to desired consistency.
  • Spoon into cups and place in refrigerator for at least 4 hours.
  • 5 minutes before serving take canned coconut milk from the refrigerator placing all, but the liquid into a mixing bowl.
  • Using a hand mixer whip into a cream adding honey and pinch of cinnamon.
  • When ready to serve add whipped cream to the top with cinnamon sprinkles if you like.

Dr. Wahls used a Vitamix to make the pudding and I will be using a Cuisinart.

When I began my conscious living journey regarding food Paleo at 1st seemed overwhelming and way too labor intensive for this 'no hands' girl. At the time I had little to no use of my hands bilaterally due to the devastating effects of Multiple Sclerosis on my body.  Little did I know that the time spent in the kitchen is no more than when I was eating processed unhealthy foods. The difference is in the planning.  Sad, but true the planning is needed because eating healthy, organic and chemical free food is not the norm in most places so planning is needed for this to be a reality for most.

Fragile Life Stricks Again...

One minute the largest name in functional medicine, Dr. Mark Hyman, invites PaleoBOSS Lady® to join him and others for a live Facebook chat as a health, food and lifestyle expert which has me dancing in the streets.  Then an email comes about something I have been working hard to manifest for a year and it kind of 'shatters' me to the core where I am questioning myself hard and no longer dancing.

When suddenly real life smacks me in the face when my BFF of 11.5 years, Raw Paleo Rita, the sweetest black & tan mini Dachshund ever, starts to walk toward me and falls. Basically still not up and it has been 3 days.

About 3 years ago when I knew I could not afford another dog I decided that Rita would live and be healthy until the age of 19.  Literally I convinced myself of this and remind Rita daily with a 7+ year term left as my BFF. #ohitgetswild

The reality of what we are facing is literally coming from a place in my person that I thought I could out run and hide for another few years.  This may not be the case and I am struggling to see through all lens clearly: mother, friend, provider and as a disabled person.

Living with a disabling disease makes this type of stuff even more challenging.  My dog is unable to walk right now. She can take a few steps and try to 'run' a little only becoming unable to move.  Just like what happens to me when I over use.   #doubledamnit

If I rest then I get to use. If I don't I lose it.  Rita is living in this world right now. #copycat

We both have been talking a lot to each other since this happened.   I have not left her side as we try to figure out what defines quality of life. #hardassshit

Who defines quality of life?  Rita cannot tell me and we all have different idea's.

The beauty of being 'human' is that we get to decide and share how we want our ending played out if given the choice.  I have defined my quality of life and expressed legally and verbally to those I love.  My parents did this for me and it was one of the greatest acts of their lifetime. Being disabled I knew this gift had to be given to my daughter.

In our time together these 11.5 years Rita has shared with me what is important to her quality of life.  Now more than ever I am paying attention to see those ideal's are met reassuring her all the way that I will not exceed her expectations. #promise

It is times like this that I feel compelled to say to you that sharing how your story plays out is important. We have no choice about the fact that it is ending, but we can certainly share how we would like it to end if we are given the privilege of knowing.

Most importantly hug those you love, tell them how you feel, slow the f down and realize what matters.  Loving, being loved and having community!  Without those elements in our lives we are nothing!

Last but not least if you could all just take a moment and send a little energy to my baby girl Rita that would be great!  We feel so much already.  Namaste.

Wahls Protocol Plus: A 4 Week YUM Fest in Pics!

By: PaleoBOSS Lady® As many of you know I have been a walking miracle since embarking on The Wahls Protocol over 1100+ days ago.  Prior to that my life was on a downward spiral with my health failing at rapid pace resulting in limited to almost no use of my hands & lack of ability to swallow.  #damnit

When I discovered Dr. Wahls her protocol was not as accessibly defined as it is today. I began my journey after watching a Ted Talk & a few DVD's I purchased from Dr. Wahls.  I had no interaction & no idea what I was doing.

Starting January 2015 I began my 1st conscious attempt at The Wahls Protocol Plus (WPP) & ketosis!  Can I just say that I am loving the 2 meals a day!  In addition I am not feeling hungry, sleeping through the night and my overall meal plans have been delicious, easy, seasonal & damn good!

The hard part for me to date has been the fasting of 12 hours. I find myself an hour short each day yet it has not altered my level of ketosis. It took just 7 days for my strip to show ketosis which is spot on what the average is for most.  I have been able to maintain this except for one night at dinner party where I could not be so sure beyond gluten how clean my food was.

I chose to begin a #90DayManifestingMEChallenge to begin January 1st in conjunction with my WPP.  There are many reasons this decision was made and I am happy to share them with you:

1.  Being a miracle is hard work.

2.  30 days a habit - 60 days you freaking got this - 90 days forget about it!  Since I am PaleoBOSS Lady® we gotta forget about it! (Italian South Philly slang here)

3.  It's time to be quiet.  Manifesting YOUR Life requires you being with you. #ohitgetswild

4.  Being a miracle is hard work.

5.   Fighting for the right to overcome disability to once again lead a self sustaining life requires huge commitment & effort.

As part of the #90DayManifestingMEChallenge I meditate everyday, have at least 2 hours of movement a day, attend 3 yoga classes a week, live by candlelight after sundown, rise & set with the moon, fast 12 hours daily, live in noble silence unless work, teaching or yoga related efforts.   Minimum contact with others and total self immersion!  #BAM

Many of you are probably like "Well good for you sister!" That is never going to happen in my world!  I got kids, family, people in my life!  #damnit

This is MY manifesting me challenge!  I encourage you to create yours!  #whyNOT

Maybe it is taking a moment out of your day to just be, or lighting a candle each night before bed, diffusing oils at your desk, knitting a little each day, painting, walking, dancing…name it!  Only thing to remember is that it has to be from within.  Taking a class or going out with friends does not serve to manifest in this way.  Internal work is needed to manifest which results in shhhhh or in other words #shutthefup

PaleoBOSS Lady's smoothie game is relatively new starting in October 2014! I did a short stint with a nutritionist around 2010-2011 focused on whey protein.  Other than that I've never really understood when and how to introduce a smoothie into my diet. #ohitgetswild

I have been a Wahls Warrior for over 1100+ days!  This lifestyle change resulted in an eating pattern change that has me really consuming about two meals a day.  Eating a high fat diet my body does not require more than that.  This makes it hard for me to get all the vegetables and nutrients I need daily. My NutriBullet smoothies have become essential in helping me achieve my Wahls Warrior status regarding veggies! #9cupsaday

Even if you're not following The Wahls Protocol for many of us getting the proper amount of vegetables can be a challenge! A smoothie can provide a delicious and easy alternative! #yippee

Those following a ketogenic diet requiring large quantities of fat I have found coconut milk based smoothies help me to maintain my level of ketosis without using dairy. This is critical for me during my Wahls Protocol Plus phases.

Whatever the reason a smoothie enters your lifestyle here are a few of my absolute FAVS & a reminder that a smoothie does not have be green: #notkermit

Cacao Berry Blast:

1 cup of greens & frozen organic berries

1/2 avocado

1/3 can coconut milk

3 tablespoons of cacao powder

1 teaspoon of vanilla, turmeric & cinnamon

filtered water

Whip till smooth & creamy!

Chocolate Peppermint Cacao Nib Smoothie:

2/3 can full fat coconut milk

1/2 cup of cacao powder

1/4 cup cacao nibs (1/2 in smoothie 1/2 on top)

1/2 avocado

9 ice cubes

filtered water

5 drops peppermint essential oil

Blended for about 60 seconds! Pour into Mason Jar and sprinkle with remaining nibs!

Strawberry Chia Seaweed Smoothie:

2/3 can full fat coconut milk

1 cup of frozen strawberries

1 teaspoon seaweed flakes, cinnamon & turmeric

2 tablespoons chia seeds

1/2 avocado

filtered water

Blended till creamy delicious!

In my short time working with Breaking Muscle I have learned that many are interested in the "How To" of living a conscious life. During the holidays this challenge becomes even harder and I would have to believe "How To Thrive" consciously during the holidays would be a welcome blog. #mystory

1. Just say NO & Dance!   Literally decide now that you are saying "NO" to anything that has caused stress for you during the holiday season! Take a personal inventory and be freaking real by asking and answering this question and removing whatever is on the side of "not a good look". Plain and simple do not allow for what does not work. Take the new free time you have to dance!  #ohitgetswild

2. Light something anything!  Nothing says "simmer down now" then lights! Put them around a tree and/or house!  Even the spark of a lit candle works wonders!

You can take this one step further by using candlelight for an aromatherapy diffuser filled with an essential oil holistic helper!  Lavender oil is a great stress reliever!  This is how PaleoBOSS Lady likes to roll!

Another wonderful holiday thing that this BOSS Lady likes to incorporate is to purchase a large candle to honor those who are no longer here with us. It is suggested to start lighting around Thanksgiving daily until Christmas using it to represent those lost and loved. It allows their energy to be present through out the holiday season!

3. Plan! Plan! Plan!  The key to a conscious life is in the planning and we all know this! During the holiday season we all need to up our game to make sure we are on point. I suggest making this fun by picking out some new Paleo compliant cookbooks and experimenting in the kitchen! This is the season of entertaining and cooking so why not incorporate this into your conscious life!

This time of year also brings great discounts on some of those cookbooks you been dying to get in addition lots of new releases hit the market making this an all around BAM!

4. Find the TRUE Spirit!  The holiday season is filled with unconscious requirements and commitments that often do not serve us as individuals. A conscious life requires a conscious commitment to what the holidays mean personally to each of us. Some of us find ourselves participating in the holidays through the act of consumerism only. Take time to evaluate what the holiday means to you and turn that into an action beyond gift giving. Nothing relieves stress more than the true spirit of the holidays being fulfilled.

5. Visualize your life!   The biggest stress buster throughout most of my life has been in the planning and steps taken to turn a life vision into reality. During the month of December dedicated and conscious time are focused daily toward a personal life vision for the coming year! This process includes an in-depth evaluation of the current year as well as an honest account of one's personal life realities and challenges. Vision boarding your dreams can prove to be a great roadmap for the coming year that produces real life dreams being realized! #dreamscomingtrue

For many of us it's not surprising that the holidays are filled with traditions focused on consumerism only. Personally this was my reality for many years! I do have gratitude that having MS created my conscious awakening that the real holiday spirit has nothing to do with consumerism. This was my first step into thriving during the holidays rather than financially and personally dying during the holidays as many of us do.

One of the hardest parts of being a Wahls Warrior is traveling!  So many ask me about how to make this work & this blog post is dedicated to the world traveler in all of us! #knowledgeispower

PaleoBOSS Lady's Top 10 Travel Tips for Warriors!

1.  Preparation is key to any successful trip that includes following the protocol. Just like daily 'non-vacation' living requires Warrior planning travel does too and actually tends to step this need up a peg.  #damnit

No complaining allowed because you are on vacation and planning more seems like an oxymoron.  Consider the alternative is all I am saying.   #bossladyhere

2.  Consider accommodations that offer a kitchen. With many travelers using Airbnb & VRBO this reality is easy & economical to make happen.  This option has offered PaleoBOSS Lady  at least one compliant meal a day on average and always a safety zone when finding meals out an impossible task.  Not to mention the savings traveling this way!  #nirvana

3.  When staying at a hotel call and ask for a small refrigerator to be put in the room.   Many if not most hotels do this on a regular basis.  This way you can keep items on hand that are compliant if you are traveling with your own food of any kind.

4.  Pack a travel kit of hard to find items or must haves!  Many times PaleoBOSS Lady has shipped ahead items to a vacation destination!  Makes a huge difference and most travel destinations have no problem receiving deliveries!  #ohitgetswild

5.  If you are like me & love food many vacations have 'destination' dining spots on the list of must do's.  When an eating event is known way in advance than call the restaurant.  Be honest & tell them how food is your medicine  and it can easily turn into your poison and can they help you?  It seems that anywhere, but in LA the answer is always yes!  #ohyesidid

6.  The secret is in the planning?  A Wahls Warrior needs to plan vacations with food, mindfulness and movement accounted for on the itinerary.  #notestep1

7.  Search the internet for recommended spots that are Paleo or Wahls compliant.  More and more are popping up & I recommend looking at the latest food bloggers websites.  Especially if they have just published a cookbook because many of them are touring around for signings posting the food spots they are hitting during the tour! #bam

8.  Lighten up a little and don't get yourself crazy over food not being cooked in the right fat for a few days!  Not going to lie and say after a while this does not bother me because I do notice when I am not living optimally.  How I extend this outcome is by increasing my movement and mindfulness work during vacation! Not to the point of being out of balance, but I may add a little extra breath work or longer meditation time.

9.  Planning is essential to being a successful Wahls Warrior!  #refertosteps1and6

10. Don't travel to places that do not offer you optimal best life living options unless you have no choice.  I know in an ideal world we want to be able to go everywhere and see it all, but this reality is not realistic and that is that.  #SoBOSSy

PaleoBOSS Lady has been a living miracle as a Wahls Warrior for over 1000 days and it does get easier over time, but it is not easy!  Nothing about living with disease is easy!  

Anywhere I go I always have something like a bag of nuts, almond butter packet, a bar or fruit on my person so that I will never go hungry.  Long gone are the days of panic because there is nothing I can eat.  #learning

Never does a situation happen that I starve, but I have been out and unable to eat what was being served.  This used to make me mad until I changed my lens.  Now I feel more empowered to promote the movement by example as I am reminded that so many are still blind to the self poisoning our food system is causing their bodies!

Not a day goes by that PaleoBOSS Lady does not hear that she has inspired, engaged or empowered someone to live consciously and that is the greatest joy of all!   No longer does PaleoBOSS Lady get mad when being a Wahls Warrior is hard instead it reminds me of how important my mission as a warrior really is! #teachbyexample

I remember it like it was yesterday watching my 1st ever exposure to exercise.  I have Jane Fonda to thank for it & to this day I have never looked back.  Never once has this gal been athletic, but I have certainly loved a good sweat.  From aerobics, interval training I have been getting my sweat on for most of my adult life.

When I was 1st diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) the docs offered me Valium and a pat on the back.  I chose aromatherapy and mindfulness training & to this day utilize both in my 'Bag of Tricks" to empowerment.  Learning early on the power of these 2 elements in my efforts toward peacefully co-existing with my new friend known as MS.

Nothing offers the benefit of movement & mindfulness better than dancing!  PBL recommends we all dance everyday!  #whynot

Everyones favorite, Ellen DeGeneres, says "If your dancing you are happy!" and I agree.  I have never been on the dance floor miserable!

Dancing is freeing your mind to let you body move however it wants.  Without thought just feeling the music! #mystory

Imagine what life might look like if you started it with a dance each day.

Nothing has been more of a game changer than to question my status quo regarding concepts like: breakfast, lunch & dinner.  A Paleo lifestyle removes these constructs and encourages changing your view of food to be free of any commercialized notions such as breakfast, lunch & dinner. 

I have certain things I eat any time of day.  Not going to lie it took me a little getting used to this way of thinking.  If I ate certain things outside of  'culturally' accepted norms I felt weird about it.  Not that anyone was even paying attention.  Just me, but still I struggled.  A prefect example is the PaleoBOSS Lady version of Chocolate Pudding.  I eat this whenever I want and it took a minute for that to be okay.  #ohitgetswild

Now FREE of these burdens of nonsense my life continues to become even more of a miracle each day.  The simple change of questioning why eating meat is only a dinner choice can change so much.  Just like having pudding before 9am.  #howiroll

Paleo Chocolate Pudding!

1/2 ripe avocado

2 tablespoons of Almond Butter (or nut butter of your choice)

2 tablespoons of 100% organic cacao powder

1 tablespoon of local honey

dash tumeric & cinnamon

Mash the avocado using a fork ( PBL likes her lumpy like her mashed sweet potatoes) and all the remaining ingredients.

Mix until a pudding like consistency and enjoy!

Having self healed from Multiple Sclerosis is responsible for this new life.  The steps it takes to maintain continued healing are reminders of how different my life is today!

Since the age of 20 I have maintained a pretty decent work-out ethic. Until MS became debilitating my work-out focus was always on burning calories.  Today I don't even remember what calories are and movement of any form is my medicine!

As a proud 100% Italian cook becoming PaleoBOSS Lady was a huge jump from all that was familiar to me!  Nightshades alone being removed from an Italian cooks diet is devastating!  Throw in gluten removal and it almost becomes a sacrilege, but food is my medicine now!

Amber goggles, essential oils, charcoal capsules and toothpowder are clear indications my life has no resemblance to anything prior to 2012.  

Once the power of food & movement as medicine took a hold of my life resulting in self healing the message was clear that I had to begin to live consciously about everything!

Life takes you where you are supposed to be all the time if you are open to this mantra.  I was again reminded of this recently as I was beginning my conscious life regarding my skincare, mouth care and makeup.
