Bedridden to BAM: Guest Blog

Dillon-Surfing.jpg

By: V Capaldi & Dillon Druz I am a huge believer that life takes us where we are supposed to be. I know intentions can guide this journey & really work hard to live my life by this personal mantra.

The last 18 months I have grown to socialize very little. Having a digital media brand built around dedicating & sharing your life makes for a very public life. In addition being healthy is my full time job & a hard job. I treasure my alone & dog time often looking forward to when I can be private.

To assure I do not stop going out, networking or engaging weekly I developed the ritual of heading to The Bulletproof Cafe in Santa Monica.

I cannot express the amaze balls folks I meet there every time. The community it draws are my kind of people. It has become a little family that I appreciate very much.

As luck would have it this gal had the chance to speak to a young man I noticed was a regular just like me. His energy contagious. We got chatting one day & without hesitation I begged him to share his story with you all.

With great pride, respect and mad love I introduce a true inspiration, gentleman, miracle & my friend: Dillon Druz.

A special shout out to Dave Asprey for building a cafe that inspires community, conversation & education with some of the best damn food I have ever had. It supports the miracle that lives in all of us.

Hello. My name is Dillon Druz. I live consciously because if I want to thrive in life, I have to.

In 2007, I was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation.  This condition is a rare neurological brain disorder that affects everything from sight to balance.  I received brain surgery after the diagnosis and was bedridden for months.

Chiari Malformation turned my life upside down.  I went from being a top sponsored athlete to an Oxycontin addict.  I was lost, sick, and waiting to die.

dillon rock pic
dillon rock pic

I had daily migraines, chronic fatigue, and extremely low libido. I was suffering and drowning through life. These days I am healthy and sober.  I work full time. I can do almost everything I could do before my surgery.

Doctors told me I would be handicapped for life, but that has not been my experience.

All of my hard ships have led me to self-discovery and an inner healing journey.  Every trail & tribulation I have gone through has taught me many meaningful life lessons.

I would not trade my current life for anything nor wish it happened any other way!  Living conscious has led me to deep acceptance.

I firmly believe that if you show up for yourself boldly, then life will take care of itself. I have every reason to sit in self-pity, but I just can't allow that in my conscious. I am someone who doesn't handicap myself based on western beliefs.

I dance on my bike in the morning while biking Venice Beach.  I grooved to Kanye West's "30 Hours" from his new album The Life of Pablo this morning.

Dillon flipping
Dillon flipping

I absolutely love spin classes, surfing, and hiking.  I crave the outdoors and any situations that connect me to my true self.  Lately, though, I have been exercising much less.  Focusing on long fasts, diet, and cyrotherapy to mimic a similar beneficial stress response.

Possibilities.

My favorite word is keto.  I know, I know.  It's super cheesy, but ketosis has given me my life back.

I am listening to Kanye West. I truly admire his artistic and creative abilities.  His persona also cracks me up.  Being authentic and true to you is a major key in life.  Regardless of how that looks to the individual.

I get mindful on the regular!  I start the day by reading spiritual texts and conscious deep breathing. Then I meditate for at least 5 minutes with at least 1 longer meditation during the week.

One small step that has produced profound effects in my life was reducing carbohydrates from my diet and going ketogenic.  A low carb diet has tremendously improved my life.  It almost feels like my brain fires better now than it did pre surgery.

The return in investment this action has given me is nothing short of miraculous.  I have a new found zest for life and insurmountable hope for the future.

A mini hack I used to help me transition into this lifestyle was the use of exogenous ketones (I prefer KETO OS) as a brain fuel while taking a special form of magnesium (MagTech from Natural Stacks). These supplements made my transition effortless and sustainable.

I am extremely grateful for the time we are living in. The amount of information available to the general public is unbelievable. We live in a time where we can learn and heal our selves by applying information from other people’s experiences. I always recommend seeing a doctor first though so you know where to start!

Dillon Druz is the 2007 United States Bodyboarding Association National Champion. He was diagnosed with a rare brain disorder in 2008 and used functional medicine to bring himself back from a debilitating brain surgery. These days he does social media marketing and promotes health & wellness through his personal social platforms.

Top 10 Helpful Tips to Detox Your Skin!

cosmetics-e1455077428601.jpg

By: V CapaldiThe government does not regulate the cosmetic industry to protect the public from products and harmful chemicals.

Heck they do not care about our food why would they care about our skincare?

[embed]https://youtu.be/RA61jh8HwPI[/embed]

Have you ever read the ingredient list of skincare products? If so, do you understand what you are reading?

Similar to food if you cannot identify the ingredient you probably should not eat it. If you do not know what an ingredient is in a skincare product maybe you should not put it on your skin.

What a freaking concept right?

The average skincare product has over 15 chemicals most of which have toxic, negative effects on our health and yet we never hear about this. Ever.

Obtaining knowledge coupled with how you respond is a powerful tool and I offer this information hoping you will respond with your health and no longer apply these toxins to your skin.

Top Toxin List:

  1. Parabens:  Known to cause cancer and found in shampoos, scrubs, lipstick and many cosmetics
  2. Artificial Fragrance: Potential Neurotoxins that interfere with your immune system and found in many skincare creams, perfumes, shampoos and more.
  3. Artificial Dye: Many are known carcinogens and used in nail polish, lipsticks, eye shadow and many cosmetics that have color.
  4. Synthetic Co-polymer: Known irritant to skin and used in many hair & nail care products.
  5. Imidazolidinyl Urea: This chemical releases formaldehyde while remaining on the skin hours after applied and a known carcinogen used in deodorant, shaving creams and masks.
  6. PEG compounds: Used in many creams and known to cause cancer.

For more on this adapted list from "One Green Planet"  & David Suzaki Foundation click here.

Top 9 De-Tox Skincare Tips:

  1. Coconut oil:This is the magic elixir of life. From cooking to skincare this stuff rules.  I literally plow through gallons of this stuff. I make my toothpaste with it, use it as a face & body moisturizer, sun screen, shaving oil and so much more. Literally the list is almost endless here.
  2. Essential oils:  Have been using this as perfume, in my toothpaste, diffusing to freshen the air, as a spray for sheets at night for a fresh scent and good nights rest.
  3. Vitamin E: I may or may not have been know to pop open the capsules and wipe the vitamin E directly on cuts, sores, bruises.  You can purchase Vitamin E oil in bulk and it is perfect for any skin issue.
  4. Sugar Scrubs:My great friends at Nutiva have you covered so click here for easy DIY recipes.
  5. Deodorant:Give that shit up. Forget about it. Toxic poison. Throw some Witch Hazel under your pits if you need to or super hot days. I love the smell of my body sweating. The end.
  6. Shea Butter:  Makes a great skincare moisturizer and adding essential oils makes it even more fun.
  7. Nail Polish: Ditch it the stuff is so toxic. The remover the worst.  Since you may not and I have been known from time to time I recommend Mineral Fusion and the colors are rad.
  8. Oil Pulling: If you are not doing this you need to start. Nothing I can say will express how effective and amazing oil pulling is for your gum health, breath, teeth and mouth in general.  Not sure how to do it? Read here.
  9. Water:I wash my body and face with water. Straight up and it works and cleans my skin. Imagine that.
  10. Bone Broth: Replace hand Sanitizer with bacteria. Stop going crazy over germs and keep your gut flora healthy.  The use of hand Sanitizer is a consumer driven ideal and bacteria is the new black (free flavored bone broth recipes by clicking here).

Once again I would love to think all of you are going to create a non-toxic skincare routine tomorrow, but we know this is not the case. As luck would have it I ran into someone who already thought all about this.

Can I digress for a moment? #damnit

A few years back at my 1st PaleoFX convention I split a cab with someone who I thought was a stranger, but then they looked really familiar once in the cab. I even looked familiar to them.  After a few minutes of geography with the where, who, when and why we both came to realize we did know each other. In a former life we both worked at a very large burn treatment center in Pennsylvania. Trina was a Nurse Anesthetist and I was a Respiratory Therapist and quickly we were reminded of how small the world is and how far we both have come from where we were to now.

Any who ~ the moral of the story is she is the founder and CEO of Primal Life Organics which is a skincare line that is toxin FREE!  It was my 1st step into changing my skincare narrative. Today I still keep a healthy supply of the following products:

Top 5 Primal Life Organics Picks:

Dirty Mouth Serum: I hate the dentist. Did I mention I hate going to the dentist?  This stuff keeps me home and not in a dental chair even with my horrific teeth.  I add it to my DIY toothpaste and brush with it on the solo.  Amazing stuff.

boost3_1024x1024

Dirty Mouth Powder: Before the DIY me I used this and loved it. My favorite flavor is Anise. Whatever you do please stop using over the counter toothpaste.

Cheek Stain: I freaking love, love, love this stuff. The video about it is cool too. It lasts forever and I feel like a real female warrior wearing it because it is from mother nature.

Pit Stick: Before I began loving my own fresh scent (LMAO) this was my shit.  Freaking love the coconut the most. Lasts forever too.

Sun Up:  This before skin protector is the perfect protector.  I have tried it and tested it in the LA sun.  This BOSS although Italian I burn baby burn in the sun and I can vouch for this product.

Please consider stopping the application of toxic chemicals to your body in the name of skin care and cosmetics. There are options out there that can offer the same results without causing cancer, illness and permanent damage to our bodies. I urge you to PLEASEquestion your status quo and up your volume regarding what you put on your skin in the name of beauty.

Saying Bye Bye Social Security Disability in 2016

12348086_10154344599831686_726108857681232402_n.jpg

By: V Capaldi I am 100% grateful and do not know what I would do without social security disability income (SSDI). I literally have spent my entire everything trying to heal from Multiple Sclerosis (MS) following traditional healthcare until almost homeless or institutionalized and today have little more than SSDI to pay my living expenses. IRA, life insurance, jewelry are all gone with accounts empty.

Yet somehow I have a goal in 2016 to be one of the 1st if not the 1st person in American who has MS who goes off of SSDI.

Did you know the longest and youngest population in institutions in the United States have MS 2nd to psychological disorders?

Did you know that one of the largest populations disabled collecting SSDI in the US have MS?

Being a Wahls Warrior my next HUGE life goal is to become self sustaining once again for the 1st time in 15+ years so that I can turn off my SSDI payments.

This would be a true victory personally & for the community I serve. To let others know that if you stay on the path of conscious living through higher purpose you too can raise the roof on life and living!

12321282_1135700186462415_3082689743085883888_n

In typical me fashion this does not look even humanly possible if your lens is filled with the narrative that comes from the autopilot of life. When you are a BOSS like me that is never the case.  I chose my narrative and work always toward higher purpose of life and living. This being said anything is possible, nothing happens by accident and I believe with all of my person this really can be true.

I am already a walking miracle!

This shit does not just happen folks. In any way shape or form.  My miracle life is work that has been the outcome of re-programming almost everything about my person, life and environment.  Yet the longer I stay on this path the more joy I have for life and living that produces the certainty that I can break down walls and barriers before me.

My volume is way up!

12347616_1135700236462410_6072618282603613086_n

I thought it would be nice for me to share my TOP 5 Wellness Tools that aid in my miracle life:

  1.  Aromatherapy:  I have been a huge advocate since being diagnosed with MS and value this in my life daily.  I recommend we diffuse, use and appreciate the power of essential oils. Recommended starter kit: Diffuser, Essential Oil Blend, Tea Lights and you are ready to go.
  2. Angel Cards: Since 1996 these have been a huge part of my intention setting tools that have allowed my mindfulness journey to blossom.  I love Hay House and this product is a great tool in my Bag of Tricks.
  3. Yoga, Yoga, Yoga: I have been a huge fan and avid yogi since 2000. One book I have had and use to this day to aid my practice is by Eric Small. He shares the disease of MS and teaches yoga in a format all of us can approach MS or not.
  4. Meditation:  I do not care how you do it, but do it.  Conscious down time is a must for higher purpose outcomes.  All of the above tools help to create the scared space often needed to get our meditation game on. Download a group app and feel apart of community if that makes it work for you. Whatever it is do it and jump on quieting the mind.
  5. Ball Rolling: Self myofascial release is so critical to my mental and physical well-being it is ridiculous. I literally have a body that works better due to dedicated time ball rolling. I am a huge fan of both Yoga Tune Up and Rad Roller products using both daily in my wellness routine.

I hope all of you will use this time to end the year reflective of highs, lows, lessons, outcomes and whatever else floats your boat.  Also take time to project, dream and design what 2016 should hold for you. If you got it all right what would it look like this time next year?

Get some.

Hey YOU! Consider sharing my shit and subscribing to my blog. Think of it as a holiday present. Namaste.

Saturday Social & Get Karmic GIVEAWAY!

karma_cards.jpg
Hello Friends,

Happy Holidays!  I am excited to share a new change in the format of things at PBL. We have decided to change our Friday Friends to Saturday Social. In essence this will be a our 1st publication as Saturday Social. Applause!

Since we like to share companies we love & people doing great things Saturday seemed the best day to capture your attention for such inspiring content. Rather than Friday thoughts of running out for happy hour we hope our Saturday posts find you sipping coffee or tea and relaxing in your space.

This 1st post touches all of our hearts at PBL because it is from someone who has lived in my heart for decades. Enjoy!

Up your volume,

PBL & Gidget

We've been on a mission here at Team PBL to find conscious gifts, mindfulness tools, and daily pick-me-ups that can add joy and good energy to our daily lives.  So we're really excited to introduce you to Get Karmic... a conscious company that's all about paying it forward, giving the gift of good energy, and reminding us that we receive the energy that we put out into the world.

We've known the founder for many years, and have been so excited to see her company grow from a dream to reality. The core mission of Get Karmic is totally in line with the PBL vibe:

"Make lemonade when life hands you lemons… and then share the lemonade.

We are about choosing to show up to life with our better selves, pushing the good out from ourselves, and creating a positive ripple effect in the universe.

We are about changing lives – our own and others - one good deed at a time."

Karma Cards are based on the idea that small acts of kindness can create big change.

Typically, the small opportunities to be of help and service to others present themselves more frequently and you are more likely to notice them.

If you’re more likely to notice these opportunities, then you are more likely to take action to be of help and service. And that’s the whole point. The more acts of help and service and kindness you do during your day, the more good Karma you receive and accrue in your life. It’s that simple.

Make no mistake; the smallest gestures of help and kindness you show to others throughout the day are just as powerful a force for generating good Karma as the largest gesture.

Acting to be of help and service to others takes us out of ourselves. When we step out of our self-centered, ego driven focus, that’s when the magic of good Karma happens! - Clair, Creator & Founder of Get Karmic

So what exactly IS a Karma Card?

This line of Karmic Greeting Cards takes that philosophy and starts by giving you the tools to pay it forward. For example: The birthday Karma Greeting Card contains a keepsake karma card for the recipient, one for them to give away, and a surprise bonus card for extra good energy!  The idea is that you pass the good vibes along to someone who may need them.

What Makes a Karma Card Even More Awesome?!

Get Karmic will be donating a portion of proceeds to charities focused on feeding & educating those in need, as well as caring for animals in need.  So each time you buy a Karma Card, you are not only sending great energy out into the world, you are making a contribution to bettering someone's life right now.  I'd say that's one small step in making the world a better place! Talk about Upping Your Volume!

The Tradition of Holidays and FREE Sugar Free Pear Butter Recipe!

2014-11-29-15.33.25.jpg

By: V Capaldi Happy Thankful Week everyone!  I have so much to be thankful for this year as in every year. I LOVEthis time of year for so many reasons.  Tradition is what really rings true for me.

Being raised Italian we had many cultural traditions especially around this time of year.

Today I live in LA with no family beyond my daughter. She spends her holidays with her fathers large Italian family back east and my traditions have changed to reflect me and my person. Although not inherited, taught or learned traditions they are still important and represent the person I am and keep me grounded.

Some of my most loved traditions:

  • Vision Boarding
  • Having a Fresh Christmas Tree
  • Lighting a candle everyday from Thanksgiving till New Years that brings those I have loved and lost into the space
  • Setting resolutions
  • Walking the Venice canals on Christmas Eve
  • Making homemade gifts (see recipe below)
  • Playing holiday music everyday

Do not let the "Hallmark" version of the holidays be what defines you this season. Create your dream holiday and fill it with traditions that  resonate your spirit and person.

Pumpkin-palooza!! Feeling like a fall comfort food weekend...

Screen-shot-2015-10-24-at-11.00.28-AM-e1445698942918.png

Happy Saturday! I know... I know... pumpkin is everywhere and you're probably already over it...  but I woke up needing a serious fall fix this morning.  Here in the Mid-Atlantic we've been bouncing between frost warnings and springlike warmth.  It's a bit crazy!  And to top it off, family schedules and life chaos have been stressful to keep up with this month.  So I've decided that it's a full on, fall comfort weekend on the home front. Mother nature agrees because the leaves are in absolute fall radiance mode this morning, and it's actually a bit crisp out!!

I spent my morning coffee time going through PBL's recipes, and here's some of what's going to be happening in the LL kitchen this weekend.  (I'll put links in to help you find products fast, but I order most things from Thrive Market online, and have them in my pantry so I'm always ready if I have a craving.) The bonus... everything is refined sugar free!!!  Sweet!

Pumpkin Pancakes

My mouth is watering right now!!  And as soon as I write this, I'm about to start pouring the batter onto the griddle!! I saw these on V's facebook page and called her for the recipe.

paleo_pumpkin_pancakes

pumpkin_pancakes_in skillet
pumpkin_pancakes_in skillet

Put everything in a NutriBullet (can also use a blender or hand mixer & bowl) and blend until smooth.  Heat up cast iron griddle or skillet.  Melt enough ghee to lightly coat the pan.  When a drop of water sizzles it's ready to go!  Pour in batter to desired pancake size.  Flip once bubbles in batter start to pop and hold their shape.  Pancakes are done when the second side is lightly browned.

Pumpkin Smoothies

This one doesn't look pretty, so I'm posting a "before" pic ... but V promises me that it tastes amazing!!  Or as she said: "Tastes delish, but looks ugly" (I'll post an instagram when I make this and let you know how mine comes out!)

1/2 can Organic Pumpkin Puree

1/2 Can Organic Coconut Milk (unsweetened, full fat)

1/2 - 1 avocado (depending on size)

1 cup Kale leaves (no stems!)

1 date

A few good dashes of Pumpkin Pie Spice

Put it all in your NutriBullet and blend for 1 minute.

Pumpkin Granola

Screen shot 2015-10-24 at 9.39.17 AM
Screen shot 2015-10-24 at 9.39.17 AM

I'm going to use V's recipe from Breaking Muscle to make this, but instead of cinnamon, I'm using my Pumpkin Pie Spice again.  Might as well get the most out of it, right?!

If I'm still in the mood for more pumpkin, I just might make these amazing looking Pumpkin Pie Bites from Michelle Smith for Sunday dinner dessert.  I watched her periscope as she made them last night... and that may be what started this whole pumpkin weekend obsession...

If you try any of these, or have any other amazing, refined sugarless fall treats you think I should try, please let me know!!  I'm always looking for something new to add to the healthy, yummy, comfort food repertoire. Enjoy your weekend!

The BAM of Life

IMG_7548.jpg

By: V Capaldi One of the nice perks of MS is that you have a hard time with emotional control. An example is laughing when others hurt themselves and also not being able to keep a lid on the highs and lows of life.  A little more than 24 hours home from my trip to Ecuador and I am struggling to keep a lid on the exhaustion mixed with the joy of all this trip afforded my person and the brand of PaleoBOSS Lady®.

IMG_7645

Natural Habitats are the group that organized and invited me to Ecuador. They are the only organic, sustainable farming company producing red palm oil in Ecuador.  With the knowledge many of us have regarding the production of red palm in other countries being a devastating reality Natural Habitats wanted to make sure others knew they offer completely the opposite outcome and how they do it.

During my trip we were taken to very remote farms to 1st hand witness how community, heart and pride can build a company that not only supports culture, fair trade and the human collective, but does it with grace and elegance offering a product that truly lives up to the food is medicine standard.  I so look forward to sharing my trip and what I learned over the next few weeks and hope you will engage in my 3 part series.

For now a few pictures that really capture the BAM of my journey:

IMG_7491IMG_7587When the reality of my being offered this once in a lifetime opportunity hit I am not going to lie the question of "why me?" kept playing over and over again in my head? How did I get here? Of all the people in the world why did they ask me?  Yup that was my internal dialogue sad, but true.

Now I am proud to say I know the answer!

I did not just get here. This is not a random gift that fell from the sky. This is an earned right and I clearly see my role in this amazing journey.  Natural Habitats collected the most well rounded group of individuals that they believed not only could share about red palm, but could also offer insight into how to create products to support the communities represented. Natural Habitats was as interested in what each of us did as we were in their work.  It was a collective community that spent days sharing, comparing and building community around conscious living.

Not only in food practices, but business and community.

IMG_7599Seldom in life do you end up in a situation with complete strangers where the bond is instant. This is exactly what happened in Ecuador.  A group of individuals came together and left knowing without question each of us are raising the bar on conscious awareness regarding the autopilot of life and as a collective it is a movement that is real and happening in a big way.

The volume is pumped way up and conscious living is here to stay and growing in a big way!

Raising the roof on life and living is not the easiest for most of us.  Each of us find ourselves often trapped in the autopilot of life or feeling as if we are alone in our thinking.  Self expression and living our dream reality for many of us is a private matter. The sad truth about  this is that reaching higher purpose becomes an almost impossible outcome when this is how we are rolling.

I say F that to impossible and Hell Yes to possible!

We are in the final days to sign up for the Up Your Volume Webinar series with PBL!  This series is poised to help you do just that raise the roof on life and living.  For the next 6 weeks we will embark on a journey that will be engaging, fun and offer so many tools of empowerment your personal "Bag of Tricks" will be overflowing.

Click the link below and commit to ending 2015 with the roof raised on life & living!

Raise the roof on life & living,

Drinking it Neat, Dancing on Bars & Living Life Like a BAM

S86A0497.jpg

By: V Capaldi It is amazing how once you identify higher purpose many if not all of the ideals that guided life choices change. I literally do not have many things in my life that even remotely resemble my world even 5 years ago.  I was the party girl who liked to drink it neat, dance on bars and occasionally was known to get a little too wild.

Now I follow my circadian rhythm for heaven's sake!

It is so funny how when you turn the auto pilot of life off and really truly engage in conversation with yourself you realize how little of what you do day to day resonates with who you are. My life was based on consumer driven values that today are the bane of my existence.

I struggle to step foot into a Target, Costco and seldom if ever support large chains.  It is amazing this is my reality since I am the poorest I have been in my life to date.  This alone serves as a perfect example of how much my life has changed.   My life is guided by moral consciousness and a value system that filled with the role of activist.

I used to be mad at myself for the consumer driven values that drove my former professional life. Then I realized the skill set that my life has today happened during that time and prepared me for my role and responsibility as PaleoBOSS Lady®.  Today I wear it as a badge of honor and pride that I have successfully build nearly a dozen small businesses in my lifetime.  This time it is a little different as I am the face of a movement to create conscious awareness about life and living and that means its a BAM life all day every day for me.

Lately the word on the street is that this crazy ass bitch is great in front of the camera.  Who knew?

You find that out by being in front of the camera and that is what has been happening in my current life.  Two of the folks I have the pleasure of working with are both doing a crowd funding event to support their efforts.   Please know that millions have been raised  to support such campaigns by donating the smallest amount. Change can happen $1 at a time and if you would consider any amount it would be truly a conscious act that can support huge change.  Both of these fine groups are creating movies that focus on an aspect of food as medicine or poison.  You all know my miracle story and how this has served to be the truth in my journey.

Food as Medicine makes healthcare accessible to all.

The current status quo regarding healthcare is accessible to only those who can afford it, does nothing to recognize culture or environmental history at all.  This type of system is based on consumer driven principles alone. The only way to create sustainable change is through awareness.  Both of these crowd funding campaigns do just that.

Check out their video's and use the links to support my friends.

I am proud to say PBL will be featured in both films and I thank you so much for your consideration. Sharing this is always recommended and as always cursing is free in all of my work.  Lets raise the roof on life together and stop a consumer driven healthcare system and make it a system tosupport wellness.

You can support their funding here with a 21-day meditation challenge. Details here.

You can support their funding here through KickStarter. Details here.

I really hope you will consider taking this one small step in supporting others who are working hard to create awareness in an effort to bring sustainable change that heals.  Please consider subscribing to this blog and sharing this with others. Raised the Roof to Radio & a Feature Film

radio.jpg

By: V Capaldi I had the honor and privilege of being interviewed for a live broadcast of The Coffee Corner Radio earlier this week. So grateful to Thelma, Paul and the entire crew for a day I will forever remember.  There commitment to the community started the moment they so graciously picked me up and provide transportation to the show.  During our drive to the station an informal interview happened and they mentioned who the other guest was and I was surprised and wondered how this was going to turn out.

Betty Porto and V Capaldi on KHTS 5 JPGWords cannot express how much I am so very grateful for the show and to have been on air while they interviewed Betty Porto of the famous Porto's Bakery an LA institution. At first I was like how is this going to work Betty Porto and PaleoBOSS Lady on the same show?  Keeping an open mind I was excited to meet a member of this family run bakery that is hard not to know about when you live in LA LA Land.  Literally seldom if ever did Antioch have an end of quarter potluck where someone did not include a box from Porto's.  Only crumbs always remained each box witnessed was devoured by the class.  The story remained the same all my years as a student and teacher although I never have had a bite I knew this bakery was special to many.

Listening to Betty's familial story brought tears, laughter and a sense of joy to my person.  Porto's Bakery is built around a story of hardship, extreme struggle, hard work, determination, self belief, family and commitment to community.  The story of how Porto's came to be after leaving their home in Cuba to now employing close to 1000 people is worth your time and at the core is a woman.  Betty's mom who is still alive is the mastermind and head of this LA gem that has been a member of many family celebrations all across LA for decades.   Stay tuned for the edited version if you missed the live broadcast I hope to post on social media later this week so check back.

Now if that was not enough to make you go "Oh hell Yes!" then this news will certainly make that happen!  This gal is being filmed for in a full length feature film One that will offer worldwide international distribution and filming is set for the end of October!  I had no idea this was happening and BAM it appeared. Today I just did an interview and the producer flipped out about my story, person and my camera presence.  Seems like all the years of things I got yelled at for producers and directors love. Thank God someone gets me!

I am so excited to think the conscious living movement can grow through cinema and I am involved in this process.  Daily my life continues to affirm that I am involved in world wide change and that is the most amazing outcome when only 1400 days ago I was desperate and facing being institutionalized.  Now I am on the radio and in a feature film!

The film company known as Alto Films have a history of award winning films. I am honored to present for FREE one of their films: Microbirth explores the seeding of baby’s microbiome that happens during childbirth. This microscopic event could impact the baby’s lifelong health and could also affect the health of generations still to come.

What’s more, Microbirth is FREE to watch on FMTV right now (as part of a 10-day free trial). FMTV is a kind of Netflix for health documentaries. Here’s the link:https://www.fmtv.com/watch/microbirth?FMTV=1968

Or, you could pay to watch for a small fee to stream/download the film on the website: http://microbirth.com

Or to buy the DVD! http://microbirth.com/store and help support small independent film makers who are working hard to create real change in the world.

S86A0607Not going to lie one minute I am begging someone to pay attention to me and my miracle status and the next I am being interviewed, filmed or both.  Words cannot express my sheer joy about the growth of the conscious living movement and my role.  Not only is it responsible for my miracle status it truly is a world wide movement that is growing and I am right in the middle of the storm and so grateful to be able to live my higher purpose daily.

Would love to have you consider joining our newsletter and subscribing if you have not already. This is a special blog too cause I did not curse one time. Damn it.

Autumn Aromatherapy

autumn-e1443275858892.jpg

As you mayknow, V and I worked together in a magical little boutique she created, called Sanity. One of the main components of the store was a mindfulness and well-being section populated with aromatherapy products, handcrafted wall & table fountains, zen gardens, and other wonderful creations designed to help you slow down and look inward. Aromatherapy seemed like a lot of mumbo jumbo in our conservative little corner of Delaware, but it quickly caught on and was our strongest and most enduring section of the shop. Every season, V and I would offer workshops in aromatherapy to help people bring a bit of natural healing to their daily lives and aid in meditation and mindfulness. We’ve been chatting recently about starting this tradition back up!! So here I am … with a few tips on ways to use essential oils in this beautiful, transitional season of fall.

Why Autumn Aromatherapy?

As we move between the seasons, our bodies and minds also go through transitions. Spring and summer tend to be outwardly focused for mind and body… and now it’s time to start looking inward. Autumn is a wonderful time to begin a simple meditation practice in order to help prepare you for our seasonal “hibernation” in winter. I’ve always been a fan of Aromaland’s Meditation Blend for bringing in the the fall and winter. Comprised of Frankincense, Myrrh, Ylang Ylang, Sandalwood, Cistus Labdanum, this blend is warm and spicy, and consists of many oils which would be quite expensive to buy individually. Frankincense has a calming effect on the emotions, and has been known to slow down & deepen the breath… perfect for inducing that meditative state! The other oils in this blend have similar properties of relaxation, as well as some more practical properties like: antifungal, antiviral, antiseptic… perfect for cleansing the air in your home as we head into a time where we will be indoors more often.

diffuser

Autumn Oils and Their Properties

Speaking of being indoors... how about setting a healthy, welcoming, and fragrant greeting for your family and guests every time they enter? There are hundreds of ways to use essential oils in your home to create a wonderful atmosphere and promote health & well-being. I highly recommend The Complete Book of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy by Valerie Ann Worwood. She dedicates a whole chapter to this!! Some of the most popular oils for use in scenting the home in autumn also have healthy benefits.

  • Cedar (Cedrus Atlanticus): known to be a powerful antiseptic…particularly for bronchial infections. Definitely good to diffuse!!
  • Clove Bud (Eugenia caryophyllata): antibacterial, antiseptic, and analgesic… clove is believed to help prevent illness and infection. In fact, it is so powerful that it has been used to sterilize surgical instruments in field hospitals.
  • Ginger Root (Zingiber officinalis): Stimulating, warming, aphrodisiac and tonic, many people already know that it helps to soothe the stomach. In a room diffuser, ginger adds a wonderful warm & spicy note to a fall blend.
  • Orange (Citrus Aurantium… other variations also available): antidepressant and mildly sedative, yet at the same time, orange is also refreshing and rejuvenating! Perfect to diffuse when someone in the house is organizing bills or studying for an exam!! Its aroma inspires and brings fresh energy & clears the mind. Citrus oils help to eliminate emotional confusion and are believed to increase one’s sense of humor and well-being. Definitely a win!!

In addition to the book above, I swear by a few other reference sources in my home, and these are where I have gathered most of the information included in this little post:

While therapeutic grade essential oils are an amazing, natural way to promote wellness in your home, always be aware that many oils have strict usage guidelines in order to be considered safe to the body. Look into the specific properties of each oil you are using to see if they are safe for children, pets, or pregnant women… and whether they should be used in diffusers/inhalations, baths or directly on the skin.

I look forward to chatting with you about other amazing uses for essential oils over the fall and winter! Let me know what you are interested in, and I will write a post about it!

Happy Fall!

"Believe that you can and you will." Buddha Teas

A few weeks ago I started a feature called Friday Friends and it has been so well received I am going to extend it to a blog post each week! Each week I will try and offer a new recipe or food idea while highlighting a few of my favorite Friday Friends.

Friday Friends are picked randomly by PBL and will be across all conscious living idea's.  Anything that will help us along our journey is free game as a Friday Friend.  The end.

BUDDHA TEAS

This company and their website have taken tea to a whole new level.  Literally you can spend so much time getting lost in the wonderful land of tea devouring every written word on their site imagining how magnificent each tea must taste.  I am glad my 1st choice I allowed the folks at Buddha Tea to decide for me.  They asked me what my preferences were regarding tea and delivered a delicious tea that blew me away: Papaya Leaf Tea!

The Papaya Leaf is full of antioxidants and a great source of Vitamin C which is a huge bonus and it tastes delicious!

Beyond taste Buddha Tea hits the ball out of the park informing us of all the benefits of each tea. In addition they use only organic tea's, bleach free bags and each bag comes with a wonderful inspirational quote.  They offer so many teas there is no doubt one has your name on it.  I highly recommend you give Buddha Tea's a try and check them out.  I am pretty sure you will never look back at tea's commonly sold at most grocery stores.  My story. The End.

Pumpkin BBQ Sauce

This BBQ sauce is a home run of tasty goodness!

I literally have had this at least with one meal a day since last Sunday!  I was having dinner with my friend Hima, owner of TinStar Foods, and dry rubbed my ribs, but wanted a little kick so I whipped this recipe up and feel in love.

Enjoy and share your uses for this delicious sugar and gluten free BBQ sauce!  Happy BBQ'ing!

Ingredients:

Directions:

Throw all the ingredients in a saucepan and heat until blended. Adding water to desired consistency. I prefer my BBQ sauce thick and 1/3 cup of water seemed to work perfectly for this smiling fool. Experiment with what suites your palate and enjoy!

Mourning Consciously. Say What?

Mourning Consciously. Say What?

r-blog.jpg

By: PaleoBOSS Lady® March 5th around 12:25am my life became a mourning fest that has not stopped.  Literally tears are flowing down my face as I type this post.  My best friend and longest relationship beside my daughter passed onto angel status.

Raw Runway Bikini Ready Rita became an angel on 3.5.15

photo 3
photo 3

She was my faithful companion, healer and best girl for almost 12 years.  Rita chose our family at the age of 4 weeks old by literally running on top of all of her brothers and sisters and announcing "pick me!" and we did!  December 8, 2003 Rita joined our family.

Fast forward to 2004 less than 5 months after she arrived my familial world collapsed beyond my wildest dreams.  The hardest fall of my life and Rita was by my side & my healer.  She was my rock, inspiration and best friend.

Rita gave me purpose, love, joy and most of all companionship.

Rita's passing did happen overnight although it so feels like it.  I really knew in December she was showing signs of aging and acting differently. We took a trip east for the holidays and Rita for the 1st time in her life decided she wanted to lay on my chest all the time.  I conveniently attributed it to her age mentally moving on. #damnit

Fast forward New Year's Eve blood appears in her urine.  Big warning sign even though meds cleared things up.  A mom knows when something is really wrong and this mom knew she was not well.  As I began to look over the year it actually started the year before while visiting back east.  This new awareness increased our conscious life together from me as her owner and friend.

photo 4
photo 4

Thankfully on NYE I chose at that moment to assume Rita needed hospice and never left her side almost 100% since December 31st 2014.  Those moments filled with gratitude were a real gift for both of us.

We both knew where we were heading, but somehow I thought we had more time.

A dear friend came over the week after Rita passed and reminded me of the tradition of sitting shiva.  Allowing yourself to mourn and others to take care of you.  I heard her and agreed this was the right thing for me to do just allow for the emotion.  So I sat and sat and sat.  Still sitting.

Here we are 3 weeks later and I am still crying and aware of this loss most of the day.  Slowly with time, the help of friends and focused effort I have once again started cooking, sleeping better and am finally able to physically move. Progress is happening although slow and I am encouraged.

You see my heart has not hurt this much ever. Sure I have been sad and heartbroken many times in my life, but those relationships were all unhealthy for me. In the past my person was broken because the relationships were broken and based on deficits.

I had never mourned the loss of such a trusted companion ever and found myself on new terrain.

In typical PBL fashion I turned to Google for answers. Searching for any blogger, science wisdom on how to mourn consciously.  Nothing. Nada.  Which to this lady means there is a need for one and why I am sharing this blog post in real time. #theusual

Sure I am still mourning living in what I call a real life Heartbreak Hotel.  I am also certain that #onesmallstep has to be enough.  In addition another common theme that holds true for a successful outcome during times of mourning as in almost every aspect of life is community.

Mourning consciously means allowing for the process while including the support of others.

Sitting shiva is not only a time for allowing one to mourn the loss it is also about accepting the help of others consciously.  I am learning in real time how that manifests and finding community in so many ways. From forcing my person to go to a yoga class in the hope of not crying for just that time to taking walks along the beach getting outside and around other life energies.

IMG_2730
IMG_2730

I encourage all of you to recognize in time of great loss and heart break it is essential to allow for the process of mourning, find community and engage in self evaluation to successfully navigate what only time can heal.

Time is the real healer.

Oh shit it has been a minute since I posted!  Happy to be back and hope I have stirred you up enough that subscribing to my blog is happening now!

Join the party of questioning the status quo in an effort to manifest your life reality. #ohitgetswild

Basically follow me and lets inspire each other. Why not?  Namaste.

5 Steps to Fight Winter Blues!

IMG_0489.jpg

By: PaleoBOSS Lady® #PBL It is that time of year where many finds themselves down in the dumps struggling with winter depression.  I have lived with family members that struggle merely due to the cycles of the sun and the moon every year no matter what.  Depression is real and affects more of us than not. Sadly our hurried lives create an almost perfect storm all the time for depression to foster existence. #damnit

I was reminded of a blog post I wrote after obtaining my Masters degree:

"For the last 15 days I have becoming more and more depressed. This coming from someone who in 51 years only has identified with depression once and that was when my life became disabled and my partner walked out!

Last week when visiting with my therapist I cried from the moment I walked in the room. I have been feeling overwhelmed and on an emotional roller coaster. Asking myself over and over again, "What are you doing with the 30+ hours weekly you have free now? Basically having the "What am I going to do with my life now that I graduated conversation!"

Saturday while spending the day with my daughter I literally told her at least 10 times I was struggling emotionally. This type of conversation never happens with this mom/PaleoBOSS Lady because I am a rock damn it! Not this day…" #PBL

A little more than 3 weeks left of a winter everyone!  Except for those of us in California the winter  has had most of the country in below zero temperatures.   I am sure physical and mental wellness are being tested for many and this blog is an effort to help.

5 Steps to Fight Winter Blues:

1.  Community!  Do not kill the messenger and if there is one thing you will learn is that community is the foundation for everything good in life.  Without it you cannot and will not manifest your reality. Sorry but this is the truth!  Identify a community and make it part of your life.  If you are a dog person find a dog community, play cards find a card club, love to walk find a walking group and so on…Just pick one and JUMP IN!

2.  Get moving!  YUP! Move your body with focused intention in some way everyday! Listen I know we are all busy I also know we are talking optimal living here and if you are not moving you are not living. Movement can be as simple as saying good bye to elevators, parking further from an entrance, walking around the block after lunch/dinner. Whatever it is identify it, commit and move your body!

Dancing always is a great idea and nothing better than this to get things started!

[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6Sxv-sUYtM[/embed]

3.  Meditate.  Studies have shown time and again that meditation offers only goodness, costs nothing and is a universal healthcare tool.  Yet almost all of us discount its power which for me speaks to the power of big business. Hence I am drawn to this practice even more!

Everyone can find a meditation practice that works to support a healthy outcome. Meditation is not limited to sitting cross legged and not moving.  Allow yourself to explore all different types and forms  of practice until you find the one that fits into your "Bag of Tricks."

4.  Journaling.  The traditional rules of journaling do not apply to the life of a BOSS Lady with limited hand use.  I use an app called TimeHop which serves as journal for me.  TimeHop sends me a daily email of all social media posts I have made for like 5 years.  Literally this is therapy for me and my idea of journaling…today.

Journals are an evolution and have changed each year, but always serving as a record of where I was mentally & physically at that moment.  You can write them, draw, paint, type grow what ever works for you is a journal you just have to be able to recall the moment when needed.

http://timehop.com

5.  Eating & sleeping matters.  When you are down food becomes a drug and sleep can be either too much or too little.  PAY attention and commit to eating clean and optimal sleeping hours!

The internet and social media offer so many tools to empower all of us regarding both of these topics & can reflect each of personal needs if we look.  I like to eat Paleo and my sleeping patterns follow the cycles of the sun. Whatever it is identity your relationships with both and make it a focus of your daily life to eat clean and get some rest!

One of the healthiest things you can do is drink bone broth daily. I call it liquid gold!

Check out my recipes for Bone Broth that my friends at Breaking Muscle helped me to share:

http://breakingmuscle.com/recipes/2-flavored-bone-broth-recipes-to-beat-flu-season

To create change one has to pick a starting point. Riding the wave of life is the optimal reality however not sustainable.  Our bodies are powerful creatures and we often need to help them to live optimally.  As you know I believe in slow and steady wins all life changes so maybe pick one and start there.  Just start! #doubledamnit

If you got this far than you need to subscribe to my blog.  The end.

Thank you and I so appreciate your support.  It is the ground on which I stand!

Community, Angels & a Deck of Cards...

IMG_5889.jpg

By: PaleoBOSS Lady® My entire life I've been blessed with the gift of creating community. It wasn't until I became disabled from Multiple Sclerosis and found myself alone that I realized just how essential community is. July 2014 I graduated with a Masters in Psychology with a focus on Community Psychology.   During my studies I learned about the power, creating and living in community.  Also at this time I became asymptomatic from secondary progressive MS during!

Could this be a true example of the power of community?

cover

Manifesting your life cannot happen alone or in a bubble.  #damit

Many communities are needed to support an outcome driven life.   Identifying supportive communities to manifest your outcome involves self-awareness, understanding & commitment to the outcome.

For many of us asking for help is a challenge and we often confuse the power of community with asking for help.  Personally it's a daily struggle for me to ask for help. On the other hand the need for daily interaction with various communities is essential and what drives me to have miracle status.

IMG_0279

A perfect example of my communities are:

The online communities regarding Paleo, Multiple Sclerosis, The Wahls Protocol and all movement sites such as Yoga Tune Up & Breaking Muscle.   A collection of these communities are the foundation of my healing and never-ending dose of support from the comfort of my own home.  They are also available 24 hours a day/7 days a week.  On-demand as I like to call it!

Another community that supports manifesting my life is the yoga community where I practice: YAS Fitness Centers. From the owner, people at the front desk and those on the mat next to me I feel connected, accepted & encouraged while being present & mindful of my mat. The human interaction is often without words and a perfect example of community. A community that I need that allows me to "dip in and dip out" with very little personal effort or interruption in space.  This sense of community is felt by being present as a group & together in the moment and has nothing to do with interaction and everything to with human connection.

564080_4137977496387_225420094_n

Family & friends are the community of both a physical and spiritual awareness with unadulterated presence & serves as the foundation of our soul. Without heart felt, personal connections in our lives we lack ground.  #todaystruth

Everyone needs an unconditional community to serve as the landing pad for their life.

I'm so grateful for the many people that reach out to PaleoBOSS Lady® directly about how to manifest their life & creating community. There are many tools that can help build community & the 1st one is being able to identify your needs and then the community that supports those needs.

If your community is to get moving identify how and find out who's doing this. If your community is to become more conscious in the kitchen the same would hold true. In today's world virtual as well as actual communities can be realized easily and offer the most bang for the buck!  Be open minded and have fun exploring your options!  #whynot

Sometimes many of us struggle to be able to slow our role enough to establish community.

This is when I would reach in to my 'Bag of Tricks" to see what tools I might have two facilitate the focus needed to begin building community that supports manifested outcomes.

One of my favorite conscious tools from my "Bag of Tricks" comes from Louise Hay of Hay House Books!   For decades  she has been publishing and sharing many tools to support affirming your life. One particular item that has supported my journey by allowing me to pause and focus has been The Angel Cards!

YUP who would've guessed this would be my answer?!?

The simplicity of asking the angels to help manifest your daily focus is a great way to produce desired outcomes.  The angles ask us to focus on various topics such as: health, family, nature and the list goes on and on. The idea is to take time & be present with facets of our life.  Which are critical steps to manifesting it.

Using this wonderful deck of cards for me was a  'gateway drug' into the mindset needed to begin learning how to psychologically manifest my miracle life.  I continue to have periods of time that include daily angel readings and it has been almost 20 years!  #akeeper

The end!

If this or anything you read, saw or thought was beyond "she is boring" would you please consider subscribing to my blog?

This is my ground and the driving force for my quest to become a self sustaining living miracle!

It is also where I learn the most. From this community.  I am sure you got something to teach me too so join the party!

Namaste and I curse.  Part of my charm so get over it! #damnit

Wahls Protocol Plus: A 4 Week YUM Fest in Pics!

sky.jpg

By: PaleoBOSS Lady® As many of you know I have been a walking miracle since embarking on The Wahls Protocol over 1100+ days ago.  Prior to that my life was on a downward spiral with my health failing at rapid pace resulting in limited to almost no use of my hands & lack of ability to swallow.  #damnit

When I discovered Dr. Wahls her protocol was not as accessibly defined as it is today. I began my journey after watching a Ted Talk & a few DVD's I purchased from Dr. Wahls.  I had no interaction & no idea what I was doing.

shutterstock113616178crop

http://breakingmuscle.com/nutrition/how-paleo-living-helped-me-overcome-multiple-sclerosis

Starting January 2015 I began my 1st conscious attempt at The Wahls Protocol Plus (WPP) & ketosis!  Can I just say that I am loving the 2 meals a day!  In addition I am not feeling hungry, sleeping through the night and my overall meal plans have been delicious, easy, seasonal & damn good!

The hard part for me to date has been the fasting of 12 hours. I find myself an hour short each day yet it has not altered my level of ketosis. It took just 7 days for my strip to show ketosis which is spot on what the average is for most.  I have been able to maintain this except for one night at dinner party where I could not be so sure beyond gluten how clean my food was.

I chose to begin a #90DayManifestingMEChallenge to begin January 1st in conjunction with my WPP.  There are many reasons this decision was made and I am happy to share them with you:

1.  Being a miracle is hard work.

2.  30 days a habit - 60 days you freaking got this - 90 days forget about it!  Since I am PaleoBOSS Lady® we gotta forget about it! (Italian South Philly slang here)

3.  It's time to be quiet.  Manifesting YOUR Life requires you being with you. #ohitgetswild

4.  Being a miracle is hard work.

5.   Fighting for the right to overcome disability to once again lead a self sustaining life requires huge commitment & effort.

As part of the #90DayManifestingMEChallenge I meditate everyday, have at least 2 hours of movement a day, attend 3 yoga classes a week, live by candlelight after sundown, rise & set with the moon, fast 12 hours daily, live in noble silence unless work, teaching or yoga related efforts.   Minimum contact with others and total self immersion!  #BAM

Many of you are probably like "Well good for you sister!" That is never going to happen in my world!  I got kids, family, people in my life!  #damnit

This is MY manifesting me challenge!  I encourage you to create yours!  #whyNOT

Maybe it is taking a moment out of your day to just be, or lighting a candle each night before bed, diffusing oils at your desk, knitting a little each day, painting, walking, dancing…name it!  Only thing to remember is that it has to be from within.  Taking a class or going out with friends does not serve to manifest in this way.  Internal work is needed to manifest which results in shhhhh or in other words #shutthefup

3 Steps to Begin Your "Bag of Tricks"

bridge.jpg

By: PaleoBOSS Lady® Since the new year PaleoBOSS Lady® has had a full inbox of folks asking for help manifesting their life!  This jazzes my soul beyond belief because it represents others actively living a conscious life. Living consciously for me resulted in the miracle known as PaleoBOSS Lady®!

Manifesting one's life includes developing your own "Bag of Tricks."  A Bag of Tricks should be filled with tools using movement, mindfulness and food to consciously live your best life.

Below are PaleoBOSS Lady's 3 Steps to Begin Your "Bag of Tricks":

1.   Add,  subtract, multiply & divide your life!  Be open to including things that aren't always in your present life. Discounting things that have had a positive impact on our lives happen to be something many of us are guilty of doing. Often we tend to hold onto the things that had a negative impact longer than positive.

Each life experience brings with it knowledge and lessons learned that are an essential element to your Bag of Tricks. Be willing to add,  subtract, multiply &  divide life looking through every life lens.

An example of this relates to meditation.  I bring years of learning in my prior practice to each meditation.  Walking meditation, group meditation, counting and so on are allowed to enter my decision-making process so that I can pick the practice likely to produce my desired outcome.

Sometimes we get so stuck in the new that we forget the value of the old.  It is essential to include useful life information as you experience it and to remind yourself of them throughout your life journey.

2.   Have a conversation with yourself about what support systems you need to help achieve your desired outcomes. This could change based on what you're doing.  I personally have identified several different communities of support needed to be present in my Bag of Tricks.

Currently I decided to make some serious food and lifestyle related  changes. These changes I believe will present a very large challenge for me based on psychological need based addictions. In order to successfully navigate these lifestyle changes I have decided on a #90DayManifestingMEChallenge that includes limited social interaction.

The thinking behind the timing is based upon the science of what produces a habit. I am working hard to change old habits and produce new lifestyle choices.  I have learned that it is best to allow myself  this level of commitment to assure the desired outcome is achieved.

Other times changes in my life require a support system of community which looks completely the opposite of the above. Each outcome needs to be considered identifying support systems that reflect the end result.

No matter what your outcome is a lot of community support systems should be in your Bag of Tricks.

3.   Last, but not least is self-love! Without the desire to live a conscious life toward self love nothing can be manifested! Manifesting is synonymous with dreams becoming reality. This does not happen without love of self!

You can tell yourself whatever you want, but the reality is true.  Manifesting life takes a non-narcissistic self-love to produce the energy needed for such a long term miraculous outcome.

Every time I stray and make choices that clearly do not reflect self-love the miracle of me starts to slip away! I've tested and retested this and every time the outcome is the same. #damnit

Manifesting is not the same as success. Please don't confuse the two.

Manifesting is creating the life that you want that supports your ideals & vision for yourself.

If you do not have a lens to see yourself that is loving manifesting life cannot happen.

The End.

Well, well, well you made it this far!  How about giving me the old thumbs up and subscribing to my blog?  #whynot

Literally these social media outlets that I shamelessly share my life on are the community that supports my drive to kick MS to the curb all day every day!

I am sure if you do some learning could happen, inspiration and I will probably offend you by accident and all for FREE!  #ohitgetswild

Thank you & love the life you live my friends! #namaste

TOP 5 Conscious Living Holiday StressBusters

nancy.jpg

By: PaleoBOSS Lady® 2014 has produced so many wonderful outcomes in the life of PaleoBOSS Lady and one that I cherish is my relationship with Breaking Muscle. This organization could not be more supportive, enlightening and is filled with quality people! It is truly an honor to be part of the editorial team of Breaking Muscle!

http://breakingmuscle.com

In my short time working with Breaking Muscle I have learned that many are interested in the "How To" of living a conscious life. During the holidays this challenge becomes even harder and I would have to believe "How To Thrive" consciously during the holidays would be a welcome blog. #mystory

TOP 5 Conscious Living Holiday StressBusters from PaleoBOSS Lady's famous "Bag of Tricks":

1. Just say NO & Dance!   Literally decide now that you are saying "NO" to anything that has caused stress for you during the holiday season! Take a personal inventory and be freaking real by asking and answering this question and removing whatever is on the side of "not a good look". Plain and simple do not allow for what does not work. Take the new free time you have to dance!  #ohitgetswild

2. Light something anything!  Nothing says "simmer down now" then lights! Put them around a tree and/or house!  Even the spark of a lit candle works wonders!

You can take this one step further by using candlelight for an aromatherapy diffuser filled with an essential oil holistic helper!  Lavender oil is a great stress reliever!  This is how PaleoBOSS Lady likes to roll!

http://paleobosslady.com/how-i-can-help/

Another wonderful holiday thing that this BOSS Lady likes to incorporate is to purchase a large candle to honor those who are no longer here with us. It is suggested to start lighting around Thanksgiving daily until Christmas using it to represent those lost and loved. It allows their energy to be present through out the holiday season!

3. Plan! Plan! Plan!  The key to a conscious life is in the planning and we all know this! During the holiday season we all need to up our game to make sure we are on point. I suggest making this fun by picking out some new Paleo compliant cookbooks and experimenting in the kitchen! This is the season of entertaining and cooking so why not incorporate this into your conscious life!

This time of year also brings great discounts on some of those cookbooks you been dying to get in addition lots of new releases hit the market making this an all around BAM!

4. Find the TRUE Spirit!  The holiday season is filled with unconscious requirements and commitments that often do not serve us as individuals. A conscious life requires a conscious commitment to what the holidays mean personally to each of us. Some of us find ourselves participating in the holidays through the act of consumerism only. Take time to evaluate what the holiday means to you and turn that into an action beyond gift giving. Nothing relieves stress more than the true spirit of the holidays being fulfilled.

5. Visualize your life!   The biggest stress buster throughout most of my life has been in the planning and steps taken to turn a life vision into reality. During the month of December dedicated and conscious time are focused daily toward a personal life vision for the coming year! This process includes an in-depth evaluation of the current year as well as an honest account of one's personal life realities and challenges. Vision boarding your dreams can prove to be a great roadmap for the coming year that produces real life dreams being realized! #dreamscomingtrue

IMG_3338

For many of us it's not surprising that the holidays are filled with traditions focused on consumerism only. Personally this was my reality for many years! I do have gratitude that having MS created my conscious awakening that the real holiday spirit has nothing to do with consumerism. This was my first step into thriving during the holidays rather than financially and personally dying during the holidays as many of us do.

A conscious life no matter how you get there delivers a stress-free & fearless reality. #todaystruth

I offered the above as real-life examples of my miraculous existence. If you find any of this helpful I would appreciate you taking the time to subscribe to my blog. Having a community to support my efforts is the fuel to this existence. Without you there is no this…

Might even be a good look if you'd share my blog with your friends.

You could even casually start to bring it up during conversation at all of your holiday parties about how wonderful you think the PaleoBOSS Lady blog is! #ohyesidid

You get the idea… #bossy

How to Kick Fear Out For Good...

How to Kick Fear Out For Good...

photo.jpg

By: PaleoBOSS Lady®

"I would like to think this all started when I first became sick, but the reality is I was born into fear."

The fight or flight mentality that most of us experience during intense times of life have been present in my life since birth. So many of us born into dysfunctional, addictive  and abusive families live in fight or flight from infancy into adulthood.  Many of us living this emotional reality for a lifetime.

This certainly held true for PaleoBOSS Lady® for the first 40+ years of her life! #truth

For the 2nd half of my life I lived in fear of a disease whose track record had shown to leave its victims:  alone, penniless, homeless, bedridden and/or institutionalized.

Fear is that the only thing in my life that I could count on!  #damnit

Until it stopped serving me… #f*cker

In 2006,  I directed my life to began ownership of self rather than a fear driven existence.  I knew without this drastic change of the status quo my life was headed for disaster! #writingonthewall

I literally packed up my bags and moved to Beverly!  #venice

Fast-forward and here I am a living miracle whose life is no longer motivated by fear!  #applause

This outcome did not happen by accident, easily or without consequence.  Fear in our culture is used as a tool in almost every interaction we have. #bam

The final removal of fear for my life was the biggest jump I had ever taken!   The outcome of this jump has granted the biggest leap of my life to date and responsible for PaleoBOSS Lady®  becoming her own miracle!

Without removing fear from my person being a miracle could not happen! #heardithere

Below are steps outlining how to kick fear to the curb & gone from your life for good!  These steps are based on psychological principles that produce effective outcomes.

Roll up your sleeves & lets get conscious!  #jumponit

7 Steps to Kicking Fear Out of Your Life for Good:

1.   Agree to own your life!   That means 100%!  A conscious reality removes fear from daily existence.  This does not mean to no longer be able to "ride the wave of life" or "go with the flow: it means to be aware of your standards so that the "ride" and the "flow" match your identified moral obligation and person.  All the time.  Always. Without question.

2.   Surround yourself with community!   Community matters so much across so many areas in life!  Building many different communities to support your conscious existence removes a tendency toward fear.  The power of community has been known to create miracles since the beginning of time.

3.   Get moving!  Energy that sits in the body becomes toxic waste. Movement, sweating, deep breathing and pushing oneself past your comfort zone are essential to kicking fear out of your life!  Done alone, in a group or with community movement is critical to understanding fear and eliminating fear!  Some of the most harmful toxins live in our bodies & a good sweat often must happen to remove them without question.

4.   Bye-bye toxic people! Now it's time to look at every single solitary relationship for its mutual value in your life.   This exercise often can be the hardest because we find that the majority of people in our lives are toxic. Leave personal judgement at the door & get serious with yourself.

I found this a HUGE challenge and chose to hibernate and walk away from everyone for 6 months indoors and slowly connecting with others over the next few years to the present day. This becomes even more challenging when those relationships are familial or long-standing. Without removing & limiting exposure to toxic people fear will continue to grow as if it were in a petri dish.

5.  Love yourself! The only way to fake it till you make it in this regard is to truly "put yourself 1st!" Above all others and without fail!  I'm not kidding and this is no joke! There are many times you may find your self fatigued, mentally exhausted or just not in the right place overall to do something that is expected  and you still do it. Stop it!  Most often our body is telling us something and we need to pay attention!  The longer we stop listening the more reason we have to be fearful. Listening means loving and working in harmony with our person mentally & physically!  Fear literally has no where to go when you truly love yourself!

6.  Slow the F down!  Somehow our subconscious life has taught us time is our enemy! Time is on our side and we are best served enjoying the seasons, going for long walks and allowing for afternoon naps! This should replace the current reality of  then running on little sleep, never seeing sunrise or sunset and seldom taking vacation/time off from life!   The art of consumerism alone is what drives our pace today!  A conscious existence  should result in an immediate ability to enjoy small pleasures and slowing your role.

7. Manifest your life!   This is the most important and challenging part of kicking fear to the curb!   The point where you become certain of your path, your purpose and your role and now set out to affirm its reality. Manifesting can only happen when doubt and fear are completely removed from your being and on every level.   This work is focused and conscious!  Manifesting requires time dedicated with concentrated effort focused on potential outcomes that produce life dreams!

My father  always told me, "I could do anything I wanted if I put my mind to it!" I have always believed this dating as far back as the second grade, but somehow for most of my life Multiple Sclerosis keep winning!  No matter how hard I tired to believe my Dad!  I began to question the mantra that had always proved true throughout my entire life that hard work equals results!

[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJXaT899oo8&list=UUzsaKxpf3ismlArCAc2Mlzg&index=1[/embed]

I remember learning about the power of fear in a Narrative Therapy class in my BA  program. For the first time in my entire life I was able to see fear within me and the power it had. From that moment on I knew this was the missing piece for me to hold true the mantra my father always told me! I had to overcome FEAR!

Since overcoming fear my life daily is experienced in an elevated state of goodness! These are not words of a Southern California 'hippie', but words based around life experience!   A conscious existence that produces manifested realities can be nothing short of Nirvana!   Not a single argument will ever prove this not to be true in anyone's life from the lens of PaleoBOSS Lady®!

The final hurdle for this gal to remove fear for my life focused 100% primarily on my health care team! Imagine what a challenge it is to realize toxicity lies within the team entrusted with your wellness?   With all of the above steps in place I was able, with the help of community, to finally say to 'goodbye' to fear and hello to life!

This week I am celebrating 1 year of being 100%  fearless!  #holla

The decision to jump and manifest my life reality has produced a miracle and it is me!  Almost daily my life offers me concrete signs that fear is gone and dreams do come true!   It is amazing what happens when life gives you what you bring to it!

Without fear life is no longer a waiting game and no longer a power struggle!

Life is all about living it to the fullest, all day, every day! #howiroll
