By:  V Capaldi

Happy Fall 2015!

I don't know about you, but this time of year is my fav!  I love everything about the fall season and cannot wait to snuggle indoors and nest a little.  This planning fool has already starting using this time to consider my goals for 2016.  Not to sound too ahead of the game, but looking at the current year automatically puts my future dreams & desires at the forefront of my mind.

For many of us living on autopilot is where we tend to be.

Seasons come and go without acknowledgement, refection or consideration of higher purpose.

I am not going to lie that I find this troubling.

Last time I checked this was not a dress rehearsal.  We only have right here and right now.

Team PBL is so excited about the Up Your Volume Webinar series that starts in October designed to engage you in life and living.  By the end of this series you will have raised the roof on you ending 2015 on point!

This 7 part series is offered at the remarkable price of $35 for the entire series with limited spaces remaining so do not delay.

3 - 5 pounds of organic cooking apples

organic pumpkin spice mix

1/3 cup organic local honey

Filtered water

Directions:

Using an apple peeler cut and core apples leaving skin on,

Add to Crock Pot with honey & enough water to have 1/4 inch in pot,

Sprinkle with 1/4 cup of spices,

Turn on Crock Pot to 1 hour on high,

After 1 hour turn to low for 10 hours more.

When done take immersion blender to pot and mix until desired consistency.

Place in mason jars and refrigerate this deliciousness

Raise the Roof on YOU

wordpress2.jpg

By: V Capaldi Ever wonder how to live your dreams?

What are your dreams?

When was the last time you consciously focused on making your life dreams come true?

The sad truth is that many of us wake up one day and realize we somehow stopped dreaming and are simply living.

Don’t get me wrong … I believe all of us want to live out our dreams and connect to our higher purpose!! Yet most of us find ourselves living life on autopilot and settling for a life that’s less than what we dream we could have.

Take a minute to pause…  For one minute allow yourself to stop and think about your life.  One conscious minute... What do you see? Are you living the best life you could imagine?

11817205_1075750359124065_630424009239327728_n

Now take it a step further… If you do live your best life, what would that look like right now? How about in 5 years? 10 years?

What changes do you need to make in order to reach your best life?

If you believe that you still have some steps to take to get there then it’s time to shake things up a bit!

Living your best life doesn’t happen overnight… but not that hard!  It just takes some self-awareness, focus, and a passion for possibility!  These questions are the first steps in your shift.

If you’re interested in having some guidance on your path to living life out loud… you’re in luck!  I’m starting a 7 part web class series in October that will guide you through the steps to realizing your higher purpose and raising the roof on this life.

Oh, It’s gonna get wild!! We’re gonna laugh a lot!!  We may dance… I’m not gonna lie.  And we’re going to do some soul searching.

This webinar series is all about creating space to live a life focused on higher purpose with conscious awareness.  We will focus on ways to get “unstuck” in your daily routine, and fill your “Bag of Tricks” with simple tools to turn your volume way UP!

Say goodbye to living and hello to thriving!

      • FREE Mindfulness ebook from PaleoBOSS Lady® when you sign up!
      • Starts October 8th - November 19th 6PM PST
      • 7-weeks for 1 hour

Filled with movement, mindfulness and self-discovery techniques, each week of this webinar will be fun and self-empowering. By the end of the 7-weeks each participant will have a full personal “Bag of Tricks” offering all you need to raise the roof on your life!

How to Dig Deep

How to Dig Deep

IMG_6595.jpg

By: V Capaldi It is amazing this journey we call life.  I find myself guided by a moral code of ethics that has begun to self govern my every move.  So many of my decisions are lead by the knowledge gained living consciously.  Not that this is a bad thing, but a difficult way to try and survive in an international culture that is almost exclusively built upon the auto pilot of life. From fast clothes retailers like H&M to Target and Costco the era of disposable is everywhere and that is the ethical undertone.

We have all heard the term doubling down and most of us will relate it to gambling.  Doubling down often happens many times when the odds are not always appearing in your favor and it is a last stitch effort.  Making the act of 'doubling down' a greater risk offering huge rewards being the motivation.  This is exactly where I would say defines my current life situation.

11817205_1075750359124065_630424009239327728_n

Literally I have no idea how I got to this place or life known as PaleoBOSS Lady®.   I do not have one single complaint about the journey I live and continue to live. However in my wildest dreams not for one second would I have predicted my life to include being PaleoBOSS Lady® and all that  being this means to me and others.

Being a miracle and sharing this journey with others is what is driving my life right now

and with every ounce of my person this is my daily truth.

This journey is not easy and a process that involves overcoming odds every day using steps that are in direct opposition almost universally to everyone.  Conscious living is not the norm. Being a miracle is not the norm.  Having both of these principles guide  life choices is not the norm and I have had to dig deeper to maintain this reality more than I have ever in my life. Recently I am digging the deepest I have to date with most of my life decisions happening outside of the cultural norms regarding how to successfully live your life.  I often feel like others see me as a train wreck just waiting to surface where I see myself as a true warrior dedicated to community and activism.

So how do I continue to dig deep when motivated by a gut with a highly defined moral conscious outside of cultural norms?

My Steps:

1.  I am digging deep right now as my life is about to change in some way and I have no real idea how.  I do know I need to prepare mentally for whatever the outcome is and do my best to define all the potential possibilities. Some of them are very scarey and some are quite exciting and wonderful.  When you are a boss like me things are always either one extreme or the other: completely horrific or the greatest thing ever.  Not always has it been the greatest thing ever and being prepared knowing my 'next move' gives me the tools to grow in a forward direction even when things do not always turn out the way I hoped. That does not mean giving up on your journey just allowing  your steps to ride the wave which often means taking a different route.

2.  Balance in all things is always essential and even more when you find yourself digging deep. The tendency is to internalize and fall out of balance when in a life phase where you need to dig deep.  It is important to establish a system that allows an ideal balance of work, self, others, movement and mindfulness efforts.  How that plays out for each of us is an internal conversation that has to happen.  We are all not the same and a 9 to 5 work day may not give all of us the balance we need.  For some of us it is ideal and for others like me not so much.   Cultural norms like this often ask us to put a square peg into a round hole which we know never will be a successful outcome no matter how deep you dig.  Find your balance and work to build the path that works for you.

3.  Listening to your gut is the foundation of digging deep.  Something inside of us was talking so much we decided to finally listen.  The problem is quite often gut chatter is not the most widely accepted and common form of knowledge for solid decision making requirements. Yet without listening to your gut there is no reason to dig deep for the majority of us.  Our gut typically is the most genuine and real response we have. Over time due to cultural norms many of us learn to silence our gut and chose to 'go with the flow.'  Digging deep is usually needed when thoughts are in opposition to cultural norms and your gut most often is driving this need.  If you listen to your gut you will find these steps used often in your life.

All of us have a miracle life available to us.   We may not see it at first glance but it is there.  Waiting for you to grab it and own what is rightfully yours.  Digging deep is an essential element to achieving such a status and the above outlines a good way to assure your journey produces the desired outcome.

Every move I have made since day 1 of being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis has kept me on the edge of almost all cultural norms and is the foundation of my miracle status.  Listening to my body at every turn and each stage of life has produced a foundation that makes each dig a little easier and filled with more confidence that the energy of life will provide what I need as long as I create the space for it to manifest.

5 Steps to Fight Winter Blues!

IMG_0489.jpg

By: PaleoBOSS Lady® #PBL It is that time of year where many finds themselves down in the dumps struggling with winter depression.  I have lived with family members that struggle merely due to the cycles of the sun and the moon every year no matter what.  Depression is real and affects more of us than not. Sadly our hurried lives create an almost perfect storm all the time for depression to foster existence. #damnit

I was reminded of a blog post I wrote after obtaining my Masters degree:

"For the last 15 days I have becoming more and more depressed. This coming from someone who in 51 years only has identified with depression once and that was when my life became disabled and my partner walked out!

Last week when visiting with my therapist I cried from the moment I walked in the room. I have been feeling overwhelmed and on an emotional roller coaster. Asking myself over and over again, "What are you doing with the 30+ hours weekly you have free now? Basically having the "What am I going to do with my life now that I graduated conversation!"

Saturday while spending the day with my daughter I literally told her at least 10 times I was struggling emotionally. This type of conversation never happens with this mom/PaleoBOSS Lady because I am a rock damn it! Not this day…" #PBL

A little more than 3 weeks left of a winter everyone!  Except for those of us in California the winter  has had most of the country in below zero temperatures.   I am sure physical and mental wellness are being tested for many and this blog is an effort to help.

5 Steps to Fight Winter Blues:

1.  Community!  Do not kill the messenger and if there is one thing you will learn is that community is the foundation for everything good in life.  Without it you cannot and will not manifest your reality. Sorry but this is the truth!  Identify a community and make it part of your life.  If you are a dog person find a dog community, play cards find a card club, love to walk find a walking group and so on…Just pick one and JUMP IN!

2.  Get moving!  YUP! Move your body with focused intention in some way everyday! Listen I know we are all busy I also know we are talking optimal living here and if you are not moving you are not living. Movement can be as simple as saying good bye to elevators, parking further from an entrance, walking around the block after lunch/dinner. Whatever it is identify it, commit and move your body!

Dancing always is a great idea and nothing better than this to get things started!

[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6Sxv-sUYtM[/embed]

3.  Meditate.  Studies have shown time and again that meditation offers only goodness, costs nothing and is a universal healthcare tool.  Yet almost all of us discount its power which for me speaks to the power of big business. Hence I am drawn to this practice even more!

Everyone can find a meditation practice that works to support a healthy outcome. Meditation is not limited to sitting cross legged and not moving.  Allow yourself to explore all different types and forms  of practice until you find the one that fits into your "Bag of Tricks."

4.  Journaling.  The traditional rules of journaling do not apply to the life of a BOSS Lady with limited hand use.  I use an app called TimeHop which serves as journal for me.  TimeHop sends me a daily email of all social media posts I have made for like 5 years.  Literally this is therapy for me and my idea of journaling…today.

Journals are an evolution and have changed each year, but always serving as a record of where I was mentally & physically at that moment.  You can write them, draw, paint, type grow what ever works for you is a journal you just have to be able to recall the moment when needed.

http://timehop.com

5.  Eating & sleeping matters.  When you are down food becomes a drug and sleep can be either too much or too little.  PAY attention and commit to eating clean and optimal sleeping hours!

The internet and social media offer so many tools to empower all of us regarding both of these topics & can reflect each of personal needs if we look.  I like to eat Paleo and my sleeping patterns follow the cycles of the sun. Whatever it is identity your relationships with both and make it a focus of your daily life to eat clean and get some rest!

One of the healthiest things you can do is drink bone broth daily. I call it liquid gold!

Check out my recipes for Bone Broth that my friends at Breaking Muscle helped me to share:

http://breakingmuscle.com/recipes/2-flavored-bone-broth-recipes-to-beat-flu-season

To create change one has to pick a starting point. Riding the wave of life is the optimal reality however not sustainable.  Our bodies are powerful creatures and we often need to help them to live optimally.  As you know I believe in slow and steady wins all life changes so maybe pick one and start there.  Just start! #doubledamnit

If you got this far than you need to subscribe to my blog.  The end.

Thank you and I so appreciate your support.  It is the ground on which I stand!

Fragile Life Stricks Again...

IMG_2731.jpg

By: PaleoBOSS Lady® This week has been a roller coaster ride like no other! #damnit

One minute the largest name in functional medicine, Dr. Mark Hyman, invites PaleoBOSS Lady® to join him and others for a live Facebook chat as a health, food and lifestyle expert which has me dancing in the streets.  Then an email comes about something I have been working hard to manifest for a year and it kind of 'shatters' me to the core where I am questioning myself hard and no longer dancing.

10959086_896087260422024_6807274109578214106_n

When suddenly real life smacks me in the face when my BFF of 11.5 years, Raw Paleo Rita, the sweetest black & tan mini Dachshund ever, starts to walk toward me and falls. Basically still not up and it has been 3 days.

About 3 years ago when I knew I could not afford another dog I decided that Rita would live and be healthy until the age of 19.  Literally I convinced myself of this and remind Rita daily with a 7+ year term left as my BFF. #ohitgetswild

The reality of what we are facing is literally coming from a place in my person that I thought I could out run and hide for another few years.  This may not be the case and I am struggling to see through all lens clearly: mother, friend, provider and as a disabled person.

Living with a disabling disease makes this type of stuff even more challenging.  My dog is unable to walk right now. She can take a few steps and try to 'run' a little only becoming unable to move.  Just like what happens to me when I over use.   #doubledamnit

If I rest then I get to use. If I don't I lose it.  Rita is living in this world right now. #copycat

We both have been talking a lot to each other since this happened.   I have not left her side as we try to figure out what defines quality of life. #hardassshit

Who defines quality of life?  Rita cannot tell me and we all have different idea's.

The beauty of being 'human' is that we get to decide and share how we want our ending played out if given the choice.  I have defined my quality of life and expressed legally and verbally to those I love.  My parents did this for me and it was one of the greatest acts of their lifetime. Being disabled I knew this gift had to be given to my daughter.

In our time together these 11.5 years Rita has shared with me what is important to her quality of life.  Now more than ever I am paying attention to see those ideal's are met reassuring her all the way that I will not exceed her expectations. #promise

It is times like this that I feel compelled to say to you that sharing how your story plays out is important. We have no choice about the fact that it is ending, but we can certainly share how we would like it to end if we are given the privilege of knowing.

photo 3

Most importantly hug those you love, tell them how you feel, slow the f down and realize what matters.  Loving, being loved and having community!  Without those elements in our lives we are nothing!

Last but not least if you could all just take a moment and send a little energy to my baby girl Rita that would be great!  We feel so much already.  Namaste.

Have you subscribed to the #PBL blog yet?  #thankyou

Of course you have I was just being funny!

In case you didn't, it would be a great idea to get it taken care of now.  You do not want to miss a minute of my nonsense.

Trust me.  #ohitgetswild

Wahls Protocol Plus: A 4 Week YUM Fest in Pics!

sky.jpg

By: PaleoBOSS Lady® As many of you know I have been a walking miracle since embarking on The Wahls Protocol over 1100+ days ago.  Prior to that my life was on a downward spiral with my health failing at rapid pace resulting in limited to almost no use of my hands & lack of ability to swallow.  #damnit

When I discovered Dr. Wahls her protocol was not as accessibly defined as it is today. I began my journey after watching a Ted Talk & a few DVD's I purchased from Dr. Wahls.  I had no interaction & no idea what I was doing.

shutterstock113616178crop

http://breakingmuscle.com/nutrition/how-paleo-living-helped-me-overcome-multiple-sclerosis

Starting January 2015 I began my 1st conscious attempt at The Wahls Protocol Plus (WPP) & ketosis!  Can I just say that I am loving the 2 meals a day!  In addition I am not feeling hungry, sleeping through the night and my overall meal plans have been delicious, easy, seasonal & damn good!

The hard part for me to date has been the fasting of 12 hours. I find myself an hour short each day yet it has not altered my level of ketosis. It took just 7 days for my strip to show ketosis which is spot on what the average is for most.  I have been able to maintain this except for one night at dinner party where I could not be so sure beyond gluten how clean my food was.

I chose to begin a #90DayManifestingMEChallenge to begin January 1st in conjunction with my WPP.  There are many reasons this decision was made and I am happy to share them with you:

1.  Being a miracle is hard work.

2.  30 days a habit - 60 days you freaking got this - 90 days forget about it!  Since I am PaleoBOSS Lady® we gotta forget about it! (Italian South Philly slang here)

3.  It's time to be quiet.  Manifesting YOUR Life requires you being with you. #ohitgetswild

4.  Being a miracle is hard work.

5.   Fighting for the right to overcome disability to once again lead a self sustaining life requires huge commitment & effort.

As part of the #90DayManifestingMEChallenge I meditate everyday, have at least 2 hours of movement a day, attend 3 yoga classes a week, live by candlelight after sundown, rise & set with the moon, fast 12 hours daily, live in noble silence unless work, teaching or yoga related efforts.   Minimum contact with others and total self immersion!  #BAM

Many of you are probably like "Well good for you sister!" That is never going to happen in my world!  I got kids, family, people in my life!  #damnit

This is MY manifesting me challenge!  I encourage you to create yours!  #whyNOT

Maybe it is taking a moment out of your day to just be, or lighting a candle each night before bed, diffusing oils at your desk, knitting a little each day, painting, walking, dancing…name it!  Only thing to remember is that it has to be from within.  Taking a class or going out with friends does not serve to manifest in this way.  Internal work is needed to manifest which results in shhhhh or in other words #shutthefup

Enjoy the PaleoBOSS Lady videos of 4 weeks of Wahls Protocol Plus YUM Fest!  I hope they inspire you to realize that conscious eating does not mean boring or not pretty. In addition PLEASE remember that this girl still has to watch how much she uses her hands meaning no remarks like this stuff is hard. #damnit

3 Steps to Begin Your "Bag of Tricks"

bridge.jpg

By: PaleoBOSS Lady® Since the new year PaleoBOSS Lady® has had a full inbox of folks asking for help manifesting their life!  This jazzes my soul beyond belief because it represents others actively living a conscious life. Living consciously for me resulted in the miracle known as PaleoBOSS Lady®!

IMG_6104

Manifesting one's life includes developing your own "Bag of Tricks."  A Bag of Tricks should be filled with tools using movement, mindfulness and food to consciously live your best life.

Below are PaleoBOSS Lady's 3 Steps to Begin Your "Bag of Tricks":

1.   Add,  subtract, multiply & divide your life!  Be open to including things that aren't always in your present life. Discounting things that have had a positive impact on our lives happen to be something many of us are guilty of doing. Often we tend to hold onto the things that had a negative impact longer than positive.

Each life experience brings with it knowledge and lessons learned that are an essential element to your Bag of Tricks. Be willing to add,  subtract, multiply &  divide life looking through every life lens.

An example of this relates to meditation.  I bring years of learning in my prior practice to each meditation.  Walking meditation, group meditation, counting and so on are allowed to enter my decision-making process so that I can pick the practice likely to produce my desired outcome.

Sometimes we get so stuck in the new that we forget the value of the old.  It is essential to include useful life information as you experience it and to remind yourself of them throughout your life journey.

IMG_1476

2.   Have a conversation with yourself about what support systems you need to help achieve your desired outcomes. This could change based on what you're doing.  I personally have identified several different communities of support needed to be present in my Bag of Tricks.

Currently I decided to make some serious food and lifestyle related  changes. These changes I believe will present a very large challenge for me based on psychological need based addictions. In order to successfully navigate these lifestyle changes I have decided on a #90DayManifestingMEChallenge that includes limited social interaction.

The thinking behind the timing is based upon the science of what produces a habit. I am working hard to change old habits and produce new lifestyle choices.  I have learned that it is best to allow myself  this level of commitment to assure the desired outcome is achieved.

Other times changes in my life require a support system of community which looks completely the opposite of the above. Each outcome needs to be considered identifying support systems that reflect the end result.

No matter what your outcome is a lot of community support systems should be in your Bag of Tricks.

IMG_1475

3.   Last, but not least is self-love! Without the desire to live a conscious life toward self love nothing can be manifested! Manifesting is synonymous with dreams becoming reality. This does not happen without love of self!

You can tell yourself whatever you want, but the reality is true.  Manifesting life takes a non-narcissistic self-love to produce the energy needed for such a long term miraculous outcome.

Every time I stray and make choices that clearly do not reflect self-love the miracle of me starts to slip away! I've tested and retested this and every time the outcome is the same. #damnit

Manifesting is not the same as success. Please don't confuse the two.

Manifesting is creating the life that you want that supports your ideals & vision for yourself.

If you do not have a lens to see yourself that is loving manifesting life cannot happen.

The End.

Well, well, well you made it this far!  How about giving me the old thumbs up and subscribing to my blog?  #whynot

Literally these social media outlets that I shamelessly share my life on are the community that supports my drive to kick MS to the curb all day every day!

I am sure if you do some learning could happen, inspiration and I will probably offend you by accident and all for FREE!  #ohitgetswild

Thank you & love the life you live my friends! #namaste

How To Meditate in 5 Easy Steps

FullSizeRender2.jpg

By: PaleoBOSS Lady® The first time I made a conscious effort to start meditating was 1996. I just suffered a severe Multiple Sclerosis attack and was desperate to find calm within the storm. I bought tapes, books and magazines and devoured as much information as I can find.

At the time I was living in Delaware and access to holistic intentions like this were often difficult to access community. So off I went to the Golden Door in Escondido, California. During my time at the Golden Door active daily participation in medication classes happened coupled with much internal 'work'.  The beauty of this was each day students were offered various forms of meditation.  By the end of my week stay I had several variations in my "Bag of Tricks!"

lab

The key to success for me was to continue the practice and identifying how to best accomplish this.  It's funny because only recently has my mindset regarding meditation changed.  A conscious effort to meditate is not a meditation practice.

A practice of meditation comes without effort and is commonplace in your life.

Today, PaleoBOSS Lady® meditates using several variations all based on the day, the moment and the intention. The greatest thing about meditation is learning and accepting the myth of sitting down in a cross-legged position and chanting is bull shit.

Meditation can be done however you define and that is the most empowering message of all!

How to Meditate in 5 Easy Steps:

1. Spend time figuring out how to be most comfortable enabling you to eventually achieve the goal of quieting your mind. Quite honestly this can be any way you want! Sitting, standing, lying, legs up, legs down, cross-legged even walking is acceptable regarding meditation.

10906172_945802018785567_467960186931012199_n

For me personally this position evolves and changes. Living in constant conversation with your body allows for this with ease. You may identify several positions that work for you based on these conversations. The key is to listen for the answer.

2. Find the space that works for manifesting a quiet mind during a practice. Consider the space sacred for at least the time the meditation is happening. Your sacred space can be different and evolving just as you practice is.  However, setting an intention within the space is a critical element that remains regardless.

I often find once I locate the space certain elements within the space are essential to the mindset to have the space feel sacred. Lightening candles, diffusing essential oils,  listening to music or sounds playing in the background  & even being out doors works.  Many times I find myself yearning for the sound of air & the feel of sun, wind or rain on me as the sacred space.

Incorporating elements to enrich the experience should also be part of the conversation when creating your sacred space.  Be comfortable asking yourself what makes your space comforting to you!  No body, but you and for that moment!

3. Download an app with a meditation timer! I love this and it makes it easy because many of them offer wonderful meditative sound effects to start and end your practice. I personally use Insight Timer and love how it shares how many other people worldwide are meditating with you! The power community once again speaks with this little feature in the app!

In lieu of downloading an app, I recommend getting a timer and/or a bell to be used to start and stop your practice. Little gongs and triangles are often used once again personal preference is essential.

4. Start slow without expectation beyond commitment! I recommend starting with a five-minute commitment for at least three days a week. It is recommended that you not be fully awake when engaging in your practice. Typically I've consumed about half a cup coffee before meditating. Define what this means for you and for many the state of mind needed to accomplish a successful practice happens before going to bed. No rules here just breath and quiet your thoughts.  If your mind is busy no pressure.  Just remind it that it is quiet time!

Gradually and at a sustained pace increase your time. There are no rules beyond honest conversation that continues on a path of self growth that often feels uncomfortable coupled with real commitment to quiet the mind!

This should be a lifestyle change and not a short-term resolution. Therefore there is no race to the finish and often slow and steady is the best way to roll.

5. Change your mindset or fake it till you make it regarding meditation. A conscious life requires balance and with balance comes daily large doses of self-care. To include dedicated time to a meditation practice should never be an issue when you are living a conscious life.

I know you're all thinking sounds great in theory, but there's this thing called life!

I honestly have to tell you that the first step of a conscious life is realizing what's important for you to manifest your life. Some of you may not believe meditation is important or needed. I am not going to argue this point.

The only way to find out is to allow for 30 to 60 days of some form of commitment to a practice and see. Science, personal experience and history have shown that meditation increases quality of life for those practicing. What you have to lose?
