Are you a Fat Burner or Sugar Burner?

The truth is I can pretty much tell you without even knowing you which way you roll. Are you someone whose body gets its energy from sugar or fat. Yup! All of this information can be known merely by asking a few questions. The truth is I never knew there was a difference until a few years ago. Learning this information has been the biggest BAM of my miracle status.

So lets find out about you: do you consume sugar & carbs?

If the answer is yes you are a sugar burner.

If the answer is no you still can be a sugar burner. Damn it.

Sad to say it is not the easiest thing to become a fat burner. Not because our body struggles it is because we struggle. Actually our bodies for most of us act happier when the energy source is fat.

I know, I know must of us are low fat consumers. We have been told time and time again that fat is evil and not I am saying that high amounts of fat in my diet was the biggest BAM to the miracle known as PaleoBOSS Lady. Would it surprise you if I told you the whole idea about fat being evil was a consumer driven idea? Meaning companies that stood to have financial gain from sugar sales were behind this concept.

The traditional diet of almost all humans tends to be heavy on the sugar, carbs and dairy and very low on the greens, protein & fruits. In order to be a fat burner you almost exclusively have to give up carbs and all sugar & consuming what may appear to be large amounts of fat.

For over 5 years I have followed a Paleo lifestyle. I have even taken it a step further and follow The Wahls Protocol. The Wahls Protocol differs slightly from simply Paleo. Dr. Terry Wahls developed a protocol that supports your body at the cellular level. Using a combination of 6-9 cups of fruits & vegetables offers our body mitochondria support and for many of us that results in transitioning your body to becoming a fat burner. The mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cells so becoming a Wahls Warrior means you are eating at the cellular level. Food is about nourishment to your body & no long based on taste buds alone.

Ketosis is the state your body enters when you are a fat burning fool and this is what I am talking about. Ketosis from an uneducated lens happens when your body starts to develop ketones. Ketones start to be seen in the body when you stop consuming sugar & carbs while increasing your fat consumption. Think Atkins on steroids.

I am no expert and this blog shares my personal experience. There are other things you can do to help Ketones arrive and to get in the state of Ketosis. Fasting is a huge tool many who enter Ketosis incorporate almost daily. For Ketosis many will typically ast about 18 hours between their last meal and their 1st meal. I personally do a daily fast on average of 10 hours a day. In order for my sugar loving body to get into Ketosis I am an 18 hour a day faster. This actually was the key to my 1st successful round of true Ketosis meaning it lasted for more than a few days.

Science continues to show that a state of Ketosis helps cancer risk, decrease inflammation, weight issues and overall health. Eating healthy whole foods, intermittent fasting combined with a state of Ketosis yearly have been my miracle script.

About 3 years ago I started my 1st attempt at Ketosis and failed miserably. My carb consumption was too high and fat not enough. I couldn't get it through my head that this much fat was okay. Years of being told the opposite made this transition hard for me. So I would say my 1st year was a learning experiment. I actually gained 15 pounds. Oh my.

I remember when I told Dr. Wahls she said to try again and to increase the fat and add fasting. Dr. Wahls also recommended switching the fat source from primarily coconut milk to meat fats or uncooked EVO. The next year I followed her lead and Ketosis was a much different experience for me. I lost weight, my energy was amazeballs while MS continued to run scared of my bodies power while in Ketosis.

I am not going to get into the steps to take for Ketosis and recommend you all spend a little over $10 to grab a copy of The Wahls Protocol. This book is not for MS it is for everyone. Level 3 is the one where ketones become your friends. This book belongs in every damn medicine cabinet & should be read if you really care about you and your body. Dr. Wahls work is approachable, easy to understand, ground-breaking & the only one based on human, clinical trials.

If you have never consciously been a fat burner it is time to consider doing it. Give yourself ideally 90 days, but 30 would be a great start. At the end of 90 days hit me up & fill me in on how you feel. If Facebook is your thing there is a private group called The Wahls Protocol which is a great community to support your journey.

Yes folks I have a honey addiction.

It used to be jars upon jars of honey. Now we have no longer maintained that level of addiction, but having honey in my diet often is not a good look for this body.

Yearly after the holiday honey feast I do a detox.  This year and probably next it is a Whole Life Challenge which means my lifestyle is clean and mean right now. However I still like to have an after dinner treat no matter how much I detox.

Here is my latest "go-to" treat that is sweet with nothing added beyond what mother nature puts in the fruit.

Simple and fun to make for the whole damn family. I like to set up a topping bar and let everyone have fun creating their favorite treats:

Apple Ahoy!

  • Serves 4
  • Prep Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

Directions:

  • Line tray with parchment paper.
  • Slice apples and set on trays.
  • Set up desired toppings in bowls.
  • Melt oil and chocolate together.
  • Drizzle melted mixture over apples adding desired toppings.
  • Place in refrigerator for minimum of 20 minutes and enjoy.

I love to add fennel this time of year to many dishes and now that I am known as "Chef V"working with Cozymeal I serve fennel a lot learning that for many it is their 1st experience eating this flavorful veggie.

Fennel is also used to make liqueur & how my family was known to get their fennel on.  Part of our charm!

It was a real treat to have it served as a side dish. Not a part of my family holiday traditions yet a part of my modern day holiday traditions. I like to include fennel to any holiday meal!

Roasted Fennel

Ingredients:

Preparation:

  • Heat oven to 400 degrees.
  • Remove stalks & cut bulbs into 1 inch lengthwise pieces or you can peel the bulb to create an almost chip
  • Coat in avocado oil & balsamic vinegar.
  • Add S&P to taste.
  • Line baking sheet w/ parchment paper
  • Place fennel on baking sheet.
  • Roast for about 45 minutes until desired.
  • It is recommended to allow the fennel to caramelize for best flavor!

By: V Capaldi I am 100% grateful and do not know what I would do without social security disability income (SSDI). I literally have spent my entire everything trying to heal from Multiple Sclerosis (MS) following traditional healthcare until almost homeless or institutionalized and today have little more than SSDI to pay my living expenses. IRA, life insurance, jewelry are all gone with accounts empty.

Yet somehow I have a goal in 2016 to be one of the 1st if not the 1st person in American who has MS who goes off of SSDI.

Did you know the longest and youngest population in institutions in the United States have MS 2nd to psychological disorders?

Did you know that one of the largest populations disabled collecting SSDI in the US have MS?

Being a Wahls Warrior my next HUGE life goal is to become self sustaining once again for the 1st time in 15+ years so that I can turn off my SSDI payments.

This would be a true victory personally & for the community I serve. To let others know that if you stay on the path of conscious living through higher purpose you too can raise the roof on life and living!

In typical me fashion this does not look even humanly possible if your lens is filled with the narrative that comes from the autopilot of life. When you are a BOSS like me that is never the case.  I chose my narrative and work always toward higher purpose of life and living. This being said anything is possible, nothing happens by accident and I believe with all of my person this really can be true.

I am already a walking miracle!

This shit does not just happen folks. In any way shape or form.  My miracle life is work that has been the outcome of re-programming almost everything about my person, life and environment.  Yet the longer I stay on this path the more joy I have for life and living that produces the certainty that I can break down walls and barriers before me.

My volume is way up!

I thought it would be nice for me to share my TOP 5 Wellness Tools that aid in my miracle life:

  1.  Aromatherapy:  I have been a huge advocate since being diagnosed with MS and value this in my life daily.  I recommend we diffuse, use and appreciate the power of essential oils. Recommended starter kit: Diffuser, Essential Oil Blend, Tea Lights and you are ready to go.
  2. Angel Cards: Since 1996 these have been a huge part of my intention setting tools that have allowed my mindfulness journey to blossom.  I love Hay House and this product is a great tool in my Bag of Tricks.
  3. Yoga, Yoga, Yoga: I have been a huge fan and avid yogi since 2000. One book I have had and use to this day to aid my practice is by Eric Small. He shares the disease of MS and teaches yoga in a format all of us can approach MS or not.
  4. Meditation:  I do not care how you do it, but do it.  Conscious down time is a must for higher purpose outcomes.  All of the above tools help to create the scared space often needed to get our meditation game on. Download a group app and feel apart of community if that makes it work for you. Whatever it is do it and jump on quieting the mind.
  5. Ball Rolling: Self myofascial release is so critical to my mental and physical well-being it is ridiculous. I literally have a body that works better due to dedicated time ball rolling. I am a huge fan of both Yoga Tune Up and Rad Roller products using both daily in my wellness routine.

I hope all of you will use this time to end the year reflective of highs, lows, lessons, outcomes and whatever else floats your boat.  Also take time to project, dream and design what 2016 should hold for you. If you got it all right what would it look like this time next year?

How is that for a blog post title? Kinda sums up my life right now.  2 years ago this week I stood up for my beliefs and  person and made the decision to follow my heartand passion to lead a conscious life.  This gal said goodbye to the idea that healthcare is only for those who can afford it and embarked on a healthcare is self-care life.  In typical V fashion, November 2013 I jumped and decided to see if my Bag of Tricks was filled with enough tools to lead an empowered life.

I could not be more excited, proud and certain of the direction the brand known as PaleoBOSS Lady™ is heading. Literally the movement is growing everyday with opportunities continuing to present themselves that continue to spread the PBL message in an accessible culturally relevant way.

The cultural norm is what the brand of PBL questions every day.

PBL had the opportunity to be filmed for a movie that will share my life story. This film is set to release April 2016 in 1100 theaters worldwide and is beyond surreal.  During the filming I lived with Dr. Wahls & her family where she ntroduced me to a dessert that is simply out of this world: Squash Pudding.  This sugar and dairy free dessert was delicious and super easy to make.

Ingredients:

Directions:

  • Put one can of coconut in refrigerator for up to 4 hours with 24 being ideal.
  • Add all ingredients, but refrigerated coconut milk to Vitamix/blender of choice until creamy and mixed.
  • Add water to desired consistency.
  • Spoon into cups and place in refrigerator for at least 4 hours.
  • 5 minutes before serving take canned coconut milk from the refrigerator placing all, but the liquid into a mixing bowl.
  • Using a hand mixer whip into a cream adding honey and pinch of cinnamon.
  • When ready to serve add whipped cream to the top with cinnamon sprinkles if you like.

Dr. Wahls used a Vitamix to make the pudding and I will be using a Cuisinart.

I literally do not have many things in my life that even remotely resemble my world even 5 years ago.  I was the party girl who liked to drink it neat, dance on bars and occasionally was known to get a little too wild.

Now I follow my circadian rhythm for heaven's sake!

It is so funny how when you turn the auto pilot of life off and really truly engage in conversation with yourself you realize how little of what you do day to day resonates with who you are. My life was based on consumer driven values that today are the bane of my existence.

I struggle to step foot into a Target, Costco and seldom if ever support large chains.  It is amazing this is my reality since I am the poorest I have been in my life to date.  This alone serves as a perfect example of how much my life has changed.   My life is guided by moral consciousness and a value system that filled with the role of activist.

I used to be mad at myself for the consumer driven values that drove my former professional life. Then I realized the skill set that my life has today happened during that time and prepared me for my role and responsibility as PaleoBOSS Lady®.  Today I wear it as a badge of honor and pride that I have successfully build nearly a dozen small businesses in my lifetime.  This time it is a little different as I am the face of a movement to create conscious awareness about life and living and that means its a BAM life all day every day for me.

Lately the word on the street is that this crazy ass bitch is great in front of the camera.  Who knew?

You find that out by being in front of the camera and that is what has been happening in my current life.  Two of the folks I have the pleasure of working with are both doing a crowd funding event to support their efforts.   Please know that millions have been raised  to support such campaigns by donating the smallest amount. Change can happen $1 at a time and if you would consider any amount it would be truly a conscious act that can support huge change.  Both of these fine groups are creating movies that focus on an aspect of food as medicine or poison.  You all know my miracle story and how this has served to be the truth in my journey.

Food as Medicine makes healthcare accessible to all.

The current status quo regarding healthcare is accessible to only those who can afford it, does nothing to recognize culture or environmental history at all.  This type of system is based on consumer driven principles alone. The only way to create sustainable change is through awareness.  Both of these crowd funding campaigns do just that.

For this week's Friday's Friend, PBL is so proud to pass the mic to Tony Ferro, founder of Buffalo, NY based non-profit Change MS.  Change MS was created to help people with Multiple Sclerosis feel better physically, mentally and emotionally.  Tony is healing his body through food, movement and mindfulness, and is here to share his story with us.

MS/Multiple Sclerosis: two simple letters that are short for a complicated condition. Anyone who has MS can relate to the challenges and fears that come when you hear those words for the very first time.

As serious as the disease is, the bond it creates with those that share the same diagnosis is amazing. Anyone I have ever spoken to about the day of diagnosis has the same story, same emotions, same sense of loneliness and not knowing where to turn. It is hard to stay positive when you hear such devastating news. But the moment you leave that doctor’s office is when the journey should begin.

This disturbing news saved my life.   You’re probably thinking, how can being diagnosed with a disease save one’s life? Well, I can assure you my diagnosis turned into a blessing and instead of looking at it as the end; it was my opportunity for a new beginning!

Perception and positive outlook on your situation is key!

If I could give anyone with MS one piece of advice it would to have the right ATTITUDE! One thing my doctors say (and I agree with), is if they could bottle up my attitude and prescribe it, they would. Although, not one of them agrees with me not taking any medications, they are all pleased with my progress and the way I look at things. I have always been an optimistic person, no matter what the situation, and that has helped. Talking about myself isn’t easy for me, but I’ve learned that the more I speak about it, the more positive I am with my own situation. I also find that by speaking my truth, it allows others to open up and talk about their experiences.

Community Matters!

No one should feel alone! One thing that I found lacking in the doctor’s office on the day of my diagnosis was the sense of community. I wanted to talk to someone who had been through the new things I was experiencing, but instead I was left alone with some preprinted literature and my own thoughts… and the answers I could find on Google. WTF is that?! No one should be told something that serious and be sent off to fend for themselves! In my experience, this burden is the heaviest thing to carry with you; holding things in and trying to hide our new fate can cause more harm than good.

Be your own advocate & Embrace Change!

I often ask people after sharing our MS stories, “what are you doing differently now that you have MS”? I press them to consider things like… How are you being proactive and handling the diagnosis? Are you only taking advice from your doctor or are you more aggressive with getting multiple sources of information and not wanting to settle for the normal status quo?

We are an over-medicated and under-educated society. Do I have all the answers? Absolutely not. But leaving the doctor’s office early in 2012 and seeing how devastated my mother was, followed by close friends and of course my family, I found new strength. I was going to be ok. It fueled a thirst for knowledge that I never experienced before.

I intend to keep learning and kicking MS’s ass. But all in all, I’m looking forward to learning about myself. I recently attended a health seminar and met amazing people with inspiring success stories. I also met one of my idols, Dr. Terry Wahls and a new mentor, V Capaldi (or the woman you know as PaleoBOSS Lady®). I can’t help but ask … what if they listened? What if they settled for what they were supposed to do according to their doctor’s orders and ignored their heart? What if they didn’t go above and beyond what they were told? They wouldn’t have these stories to share; they wouldn’t be able to inspire others to do the same.

Don’t settle!! Don’t stop questioning! And don’t stop believing in the power of you.

Through his organization, Tony and the Change MS team have created an amazing community dedicated to raising awareness about MS, providing resources and support,  and empowering people to live their best life.

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of seeing 1st hand the power of Dr. Wahls, her family and The Wahls Protocol teachings to change lives beyond any healthcare science I have ever witnessed.  None of what took place at the symposium was based around consumer driven principles or sponsored by a drug company as in traditional healthcare.  Instead all was based around accessibility with self-care tools of empowerment shared by the buckets!

By: V Capaldi It is amazing this journey we call life.  I find myself guided by a moral code of ethics that has begun to self govern my every move.  So many of my decisions are lead by the knowledge gained living consciously.  Not that this is a bad thing, but a difficult way to try and survive in an international culture that is almost exclusively built upon the auto pilot of life. From fast clothes retailers like H&M to Target and Costco the era of disposable is everywhere and that is the ethical undertone.

We have all heard the term doubling down and most of us will relate it to gambling.  Doubling down often happens many times when the odds are not always appearing in your favor and it is a last stitch effort.  Making the act of 'doubling down' a greater risk offering huge rewards being the motivation.  This is exactly where I would say defines my current life situation.

Literally I have no idea how I got to this place or life known as PaleoBOSS Lady®.   I do not have one single complaint about the journey I live and continue to live. However in my wildest dreams not for one second would I have predicted my life to include being PaleoBOSS Lady® and all that  being this means to me and others.

Being a miracle and sharing this journey with others is what is driving my life right now

and with every ounce of my person this is my daily truth.

This journey is not easy and a process that involves overcoming odds every day using steps that are in direct opposition almost universally to everyone.  Conscious living is not the norm. Being a miracle is not the norm.  Having both of these principles guide  life choices is not the norm and I have had to dig deeper to maintain this reality more than I have ever in my life. Recently I am digging the deepest I have to date with most of my life decisions happening outside of the cultural norms regarding how to successfully live your life.  I often feel like others see me as a train wreck just waiting to surface where I see myself as a true warrior dedicated to community and activism.

So how do I continue to dig deep when motivated by a gut with a highly defined moral conscious outside of cultural norms?

My Steps:

1.  I am digging deep right now as my life is about to change in some way and I have no real idea how.  I do know I need to prepare mentally for whatever the outcome is and do my best to define all the potential possibilities. Some of them are very scarey and some are quite exciting and wonderful.  When you are a boss like me things are always either one extreme or the other: completely horrific or the greatest thing ever.  Not always has it been the greatest thing ever and being prepared knowing my 'next move' gives me the tools to grow in a forward direction even when things do not always turn out the way I hoped. That does not mean giving up on your journey just allowing  your steps to ride the wave which often means taking a different route.

2.  Balance in all things is always essential and even more when you find yourself digging deep. The tendency is to internalize and fall out of balance when in a life phase where you need to dig deep.  It is important to establish a system that allows an ideal balance of work, self, others, movement and mindfulness efforts.  How that plays out for each of us is an internal conversation that has to happen.  We are all not the same and a 9 to 5 work day may not give all of us the balance we need.  For some of us it is ideal and for others like me not so much.   Cultural norms like this often ask us to put a square peg into a round hole which we know never will be a successful outcome no matter how deep you dig.  Find your balance and work to build the path that works for you.

3.  Listening to your gut is the foundation of digging deep.  Something inside of us was talking so much we decided to finally listen.  The problem is quite often gut chatter is not the most widely accepted and common form of knowledge for solid decision making requirements. Yet without listening to your gut there is no reason to dig deep for the majority of us.  Our gut typically is the most genuine and real response we have. Over time due to cultural norms many of us learn to silence our gut and chose to 'go with the flow.'  Digging deep is usually needed when thoughts are in opposition to cultural norms and your gut most often is driving this need.  If you listen to your gut you will find these steps used often in your life.

All of us have a miracle life available to us.   We may not see it at first glance but it is there.  Waiting for you to grab it and own what is rightfully yours.  Digging deep is an essential element to achieving such a status and the above outlines a good way to assure your journey produces the desired outcome.

Every move I have made since day 1 of being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis has kept me on the edge of almost all cultural norms and is the foundation of my miracle status.  Listening to my body at every turn and each stage of life has produced a foundation that makes each dig a little easier and filled with more confidence that the energy of life will provide what I need as long as I create the space for it to manifest.

By: V Capaldi Last week I missed the Friday Friend feature because I was in Iowa at the Dr. Terry Wahls Symposium and I apologize.  Tried for a Sunday make-up day, but that did not happen either.  Such a test of 'riding the wave' for this Type "A" gal.

I am uber excited to talk about this weeks Friday Friend for 2 reasons.  The 1st is because I love being a Roll Model and sharing the power of Yoga Tune Up (YTU) Therapy Balls!  The YTU balls are one of the most important tools in my wellness "Bag of Tricks" and support my program no matter where or when I need them. I have been an avid Roll Model for over 5 years and my body and person are grateful.

Just as I stalked Dr. Wahls about my amazing healing journey following The Wahls Protocol I stalked Jill Miller the founder of YTU to share with her my healing story of movement using the YTU balls.  The power of self myo-fascial release to help me to "work better in my body" are beyond description and should be experienced by each of you 1st hand!

Slow Cooker Lemon Infused Artichokes

Can I just tell you this rules and is delicious beyond words!

What a nice transitional dish from our grilled summer foods to the slow cooking of the fall and winter season.  I have been making artichokes non stop these last few weeks and each time reminded of my family and Italian culture.

Growing up my maternal grandmother made killer Italian stuffed artichoke that inspired the recipe in my Paleo PerfectHolidays e-cookbook.  Enjoy this new version of one of my cultural family favorites!

Ingredients:

3 Artichokes trimmed and prepped (snip off pointy ends using scissors trimming tops and bottom)

1 Lemon

1 Bay leaf

1/4 cup Kasandrino's EVO

Pink Himalayan sea salt

Fresh ground black pepper

1 cup of bone broth or filtered water

Tin Star ghee or Brown Butter melted

Slow Cooker or stove top for 25 minutes covered

Directions:

Place trimmed and cleaned artichoke in Crock pot with 1/4 inch fluid on bottom. Add bay leaf, squeeze lemon, S&P drizzling with EVO cooking slow for 4 hours. Serve with melted Ghee of your choice. Enjoy!

Changing the World w/ Dr. Terry Wahls

By: V Capaldi Barely back in one piece and still on an emotional high that will take me at least a month to recover from.  The 2nd Annual Dr. Terry Wahls in-person Symposium just ended and I am speechless.  Simply finding it hard to socialize, idealize and realize all that happened in the last 6 days.  My body has demanded so much attention since I am home my post may seem jumbled and all over the place since my person has had little time to process. #damnit

The 1st thing I want to say that was the most amazing outcome was to have the entire Wahls Family present for the symposium!  Mind blowing they all participated in a BIG ASS way and how much this elevated the bonds, learning and experience of the Wahls Warrior community and how deep it goes.

A huge highlight was to officially meet Zach Wahls.  He has been a hero of mine long before I realized his mother was Dr. Wahls.  Zach opened and MC'd with the level of professionalism, heart and soul the WORLD has grown to love. His  presence is warm, welcome and commanding just like his mothers.  Zach added a huge element to the entire event that was magical.

Zebby whose art is beyond words in my limited vocabulary. She is a young lady who portrays a large dose of self expression, is complex, captivating and beautiful.  In addition Zebby held a key role facilitating testimonials of those like me who have been given the gift of hope and healing from The Wahls Protocol.

Last, but not least Dr Wahls wife, Jackie shared with much vulnerability her life as a partner of Dr. Wahls and MS.  The bond that was witnessed by each person in the room between these two was deeper than anything I have ever felt or experienced and I am sure I do not stand alone in this feeling.  At one point Jackie shared, to a tear filled room, how she fell in love with Terry's "eye's and heart and that MS did not change that."  Amazing, amazing, amazing.

We were also gifted with another panel discussion that included couples dealing with both life threatening sickness and disease.  Both of these couples gave us full access to their personal lives and how they manifested their healing outcome.  Tears of sorrow, joy and determination where shared by everyone and after all of this I knew each of us had forever changed and become one.

When you live with disease being vulnerable in community is

never really experienced and these events brought me personally to a place of emotion

that lifted my soul to a higher level. 

This years event was about twice the size of last and if offered triple the punch.  A day longer and larger community brought lots of energy and was felt by everyone.  As of today all indications show this outcome to almost be universal with about 1/3 already signed up for next year. 

To be disabled, alone and often isolated in my struggles there is great strength in knowing that I will once again see my FAMILY in wellness and knowing when.  The Dr. Wahls Symposiums are a life line and intergral part of my wellness plan and this year solidified this reality. 

I recommend you all start now saving and plan to attend next year. 

This is a must for the warrior in all of us!

5 Tips to Thrive Like a "BOSS"

When you live With a Disease of Any Kind! By: PaleoBOSS Lady®

The other day while I was in the shower disgusted that LA is having rare horrific weather a blog post came to me. The mental conversation I was having I somehow suspect many others living with a disease might also engage in from time to time.  This prompted me to think this might be a good time to share some tips and tricks I have learned in my life commitment toward changing the narrative to manifest my desired life outcome.

Due to an offshore hurricane we had rare 90% humidity for days which sucks a wet one.  Living with Multiple Sclerosis this is not a good look and quite frankly just blows. My body has no ability to regulate temperature and overheats very easily. My most disabling MS attack was a result of a morning walk along the beach in 2001 when the humidity was high and my body was unable to cool down resulting in one of the worst health nightmares of my life to date. #ohitgetswild

For the last few months I have been walking along the waters edge about 3 days a week for my movement, mindfulness and grounding work. I so look forward to this more than any other part of my day because that is how I roll.  Sadly I have had to curtail this due to the weather and even though the weather is not as severe I am still unable to resume.  It is just over the edge of acceptable humidity levels for my body even at 60%.

Every morning I wake up hopeful as a mother and then realize that not only can't I walk I also should not really be do much during  warm weather conditions.  So not a good look on any freaking level.  Which for anyone who knows me personally knows this is a hard ass thing for this Type A overachiever!

As a result I have literally caught myself several times a day having these types of conversations with myself:  "It's only 70% humidity in the afternoon I got this?" or "If I am walking before the sun is up that is a good look?" and finally the most rational "California humidity is not like the east coast humidity cause this is the best damn coast." All of these are unhealthy conversations that if acted upon could potentially have an outcome that could set me back or worse yet change the landscape of my current independent life in a heartbeat.

Living with disease always presents the risk of making a "false move" and how it tends to effect our lives longer than we ever imagined.  I never in my wildest dreams would have believed that a walk on the beach on a humid day in 2001 would take almost 14 years to recover from!

How does one avoid these often life changing "false moves" when living with disease of any kind? #damnit

While in the shower mind racing a mile a minute I put together my:

Top 5 TIPS for Living with Chronic Disease

1. Define Your Desired Life Outcome:  As my dear friend, hero and mentor, Dr. Terry Wahls, talks about in her book The Wahls Protocol real change has to come from an internal motivating source to be successful. The best way to attain this level of success it to focus on identifying our higher purpose or desired life outcome.

Engage in conversation with yourself to really define a desired life outcome is key to thriving in the face of disease.  Without conscious conversation defining dreams and desires life runs on autopilot and many of us become victims of our disease rather than peacefully co-existing.

2.  Develop an Action Plan:Once you have defined a higher purpose how are you going to get there? Break down the steps with a well defined action plan for the most successful outcome.  Making sure each step maintainable and sustainable.  These two aspects are key to the success of this step.

Often many of us go from nothing to "all in" and this seldom works.  Small, consistent and well thought out action toward a desired outcome lends itself to a higher rate of sustainable success.  Rather than jump head 1st without a parachute it is best to go slow and steady with a well defined path.  Plot out baby steps up the latter to success and be willing to change course as needed.

3.  Build Community:  Community is the ground in which I stand and responsible for my current miracle status.  Without the support of community most challenges in life become mountains many of us cannot climb.   The support of friends, family, organizations and groups are key to any life successes.

Often when living with disease one feels isolated and alone. By seeking and engaging in community you can quickly overcome feelings of loneliness and defeat to begin taking steps toward effectively manifesting a higher purpose.

4.  Changing the Narrative: Being open to changing the lens in which you view all things to accommodate and peacefully coexist with disease is a key element to success. Many times we are so fixated on what we already know we forget to ask about what we don't.  When we allow ourselves to be comfortable with a fluid narrative the path to higher purpose is more like a tree that grows around something in it's way, but continues to grow instead of slowing dying due to the obstacle before it.

5.  Get Conscious:  Most of us live an unconscious life and you have heard me say it time and again. Without owning our life and actions chronic disease is in the driver seat and you are the passenger.  The status quo is not an effective way to manage any disease.  By questioning the status quo you allow your person to often think outside the box and open yourself up to idea's that often would be missed or overlooked by an unconscious existence.

If PaleoBOSS Lady had not been searching the internet for nutrition based outcomes for MS I never would have found Dr. Wahls Tedx Talk which laid the foundation for the miracle I am today. In questioning the status quo I was able to find my hero and miracle outcome.

They say 1 in 3 are projected to be disabled by 2018 whereas today about 1 in 5 are disabled.  Many of us live with this reality due to our unconscious acts in our autopilot life and are living in a world based on consumer driven idea's only.  If each of us would begin to really question simple things like:

What time we go to bed?

How many hours of sleep we have?

What we eat for our meals?

How many meals we have a day?

What we apply to our bodies, brush our teeth with and the list goes on we might find out that a lot of these things would not be happening in the way they are now which often will produce a different outcome.  The simple act of questioning the status quo many times produces the outcomes needed to manifest your life.

Applying all 5 of these idea's are required for my miracle life and I would venture to believe the same would hold true for each of us.  This process and practice is a daily initiative that defines my person and my day.

As often happens we experience unexpected outcomes in addition to the intended and it seems these steps would hold true in this regard. I am not going to lie and let you in on a little known secret: living with disease in this way simplifies life!  Yup!  Which is an oxymoron when you are compromised and especially as you age.

When you question the status quo everything somehow becomes simple, pure and innocent and life becomes fresh and essential. Life becomes something you LIVE with your eyes wide open welcoming every second!

DO NOT JUDGE. NO ASSHOLES ALLOWED.  THE END. #icurse Almost immediately after my diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) I started using marijuana to treat my symptoms and it still continues to this day.  Which was a huge issue for me because I was raised by a mother who was addicted to prescription drugs my whole life.  On one hand I was saying no to Valium which docs freely wanted to give me, but willing to use illegal drugs to heal.  This became a huge issue for many in my family as they say my decision and need to use marijuana as the gateway to be becoming an addict like my mother. I saw it as a saving grace for this not to happen.  Because marijuana is illegal most closest to me considered me a drug addict rather than someone holistically trying to live with MS and it's horrific symptoms. #onesmallstep

From the onset of MS becoming my life partner it brought with it what I call "under-skin jumping."  Basically it felt like my limbs were jumping around all the time in every direction.  As a result of this feeling my body was constantly trying to stop the limbs from 'jumping' and I lived with the feeling of constantly trying to hold them down & in place.  My 'jumping' was so severe that I could not do acupuncture because the needles would move so much they would eventually bend from the constant movement.  Good times had by all when this happened.

Until I moved to California in 2006 I broke the law and smoked marijuana daily to control these symptoms.   Little did I know until recently how much marijuana was really helping in my life beyond 'jumping.'  I just learned in the last few months how much marijuana relieved many symptoms related to MS. For 28 years I spoked marijuana almost daily. Everywhere I want and everyone who knew me was aware I used pot as medicine in my life with MS. Whether they agreed or not they knew if I was around there was a chance weed was on my person. #ohitgetswild

As luck would have it following The Wahls Protocol I healed from almost all of my symptoms related to living with MS. The limb jumping slowly but surely left my body and I no longer lived with this 'jumping' sensation. In   2015 I decided to stop smoking pot after the symptoms that I used marijuana to treat were no longer in my life.

Little did I know how much more the use of marijuana was helping.

The end of April I rented a guest house in LA and moved in 2 days before heading to Austin for PaleoFX.  Literally I moved in, unpacked my boxes and then quickly proceeded to pack a suitcase to start a month of assorted traveling as PaleoBOSS Lady.  So excited I was to head to my 2nd year of PaleoFX! #paleocommunityrocksbigtime

The plane takes off at LAX and all of a sudden an MS symptom I had not known in over 4 years returns and it is the scariest of all: throat rigidity. Yup the mother of all symptoms happens when we reach 'our cruising altitude' and results in a strong charlie horse in my throat.  Unable to swallow or stop the throat spams I literally panic realizing I am on a plane, traveling alone and unable to speak to share what is happening to me.  My throat is spasming like a mother and I have nothing on my person to help relieve this almost foreign symptom from MS. #damnit

I massage the area, calm my shit and slowly the spasms subsides. I sit in fear for the remainder of the flight especially the landing.  Convinced the atmospheric pressure caused the spasm I wonder if landing will bring the same result.  Happily it did not and once on the ground in Austin I kissed it.  Thankful that the flight reality was not worse and that I am okay.

When I get home I immediately call my doctor who prescribes Baclofen for me to take before and after flights to relieve the spasms.  This is such a defeat for me since it took me over 1.5 years to ween off of high doses of Baclofen that I took for years to treat my bodily spasms and was my last MS drug to kick to the curb since becoming a Wahls Warrior.  However the scary reality of throat rigidity and 2 upcoming plane rides were enough for me to give in and resume Baclofen in my life. Honestly with each plane ride that I took without issue I was grateful that I had Baclofen back in my 'Bag of Tricks.'

Traveling stops and I wean off the Baclofen but the throat rigidity continues to haunt me. In addition I lose feeling on the left side of my face & the area from my knee to ankle and restless leg starts to come back into my life. I am now not getting on planes or traveling but yet symptoms that were distant memories are coming back and piling on top of one another.  I am scared and surprised this is happening. #doubledamnit

What is causing this to happen?

Living a conscious life not much happens that I am not aware of and how it may or may not effect my body.  I looked for days at my life since the throat issues came back and what could have caused them if it was not the change in pressure caused by flying.  I knew I had just moved and the house became my focus. Sure enough my new landlord had been spraying highly toxic chemicals in the house I moved for roach control (another blog post for this but know I have moved again to a non toxic home without roaches)!  The air travel was enough to wake up my throat rigidity and the continued exposure to toxic chemicals created a petri dish for other MS related symptoms to follow.

So I did an experiment.  

I smoked weed for 3 days one weekend to see what result if any it would have on my body.  The throat jumping stopped immediately and the other symptoms started to slowly go away.  They would all be gone for about 2-4 hours after smoking and some would return in a less threatening form.  I stopped smoking again for 3 days and all of them returned to their full blown nightmare reality.  For the 1st time this BOSS realized how much pot helped MS symptoms beyond 'limb jumping.'

For some reason initially I felt mentally defeated that I started to smoke weed again. I was so proud to have gone off all medications for the treatment of MS.  Then I realized this too may pass.   It was toxic chemical exposure that caused the symptoms to come back. Weed is the treatment that is helping until my body calms down enough to let go of their death grip on my symptoms. History has shown for me as a Wahls Warrior that these symptoms can leave my body and remain gone as long as my conscious life reality is not effected.

Smoking a little daily to treat the symptoms and it continues to help.  My usage and need are getting less and less each day as my toxic load continues to diminish.  However I am certain the marijuana will always be in my 'Bag of Tricks.'  This medicinal plant has provided me life changing healing for most of my years living with MS and continues to be a much better option than any pill a doc has ever prescribed.

The moral conflict associated with using weed I am over and think that the future continues to look bright for legalization to happen universally in the USA. I hope that many will realize the power to heal both mentally and physically using marijuana holds.  I really think it is time for all of us to stop the demonization of pot and can we all just say AMEN TO THE WEED!

We should instead be having this critical eye on all the drugs and drug companies and leave mother nature alone!

Wahls Protocol Plus: A 4 Week YUM Fest in Pics!

By: PaleoBOSS Lady® As many of you know I have been a walking miracle since embarking on The Wahls Protocol over 1100+ days ago.  Prior to that my life was on a downward spiral with my health failing at rapid pace resulting in limited to almost no use of my hands & lack of ability to swallow.  #damnit

When I discovered Dr. Wahls her protocol was not as accessibly defined as it is today. I began my journey after watching a Ted Talk & a few DVD's I purchased from Dr. Wahls.  I had no interaction & no idea what I was doing.

Starting January 2015 I began my 1st conscious attempt at The Wahls Protocol Plus (WPP) & ketosis!  Can I just say that I am loving the 2 meals a day!  In addition I am not feeling hungry, sleeping through the night and my overall meal plans have been delicious, easy, seasonal & damn good!

The hard part for me to date has been the fasting of 12 hours. I find myself an hour short each day yet it has not altered my level of ketosis. It took just 7 days for my strip to show ketosis which is spot on what the average is for most.  I have been able to maintain this except for one night at dinner party where I could not be so sure beyond gluten how clean my food was.

I chose to begin a #90DayManifestingMEChallenge to begin January 1st in conjunction with my WPP.  There are many reasons this decision was made and I am happy to share them with you:

1.  Being a miracle is hard work.

2.  30 days a habit - 60 days you freaking got this - 90 days forget about it!  Since I am PaleoBOSS Lady® we gotta forget about it! (Italian South Philly slang here)

3.  It's time to be quiet.  Manifesting YOUR Life requires you being with you. #ohitgetswild

4.  Being a miracle is hard work.

5.   Fighting for the right to overcome disability to once again lead a self sustaining life requires huge commitment & effort.

As part of the #90DayManifestingMEChallenge I meditate everyday, have at least 2 hours of movement a day, attend 3 yoga classes a week, live by candlelight after sundown, rise & set with the moon, fast 12 hours daily, live in noble silence unless work, teaching or yoga related efforts.   Minimum contact with others and total self immersion!  #BAM

Many of you are probably like "Well good for you sister!" That is never going to happen in my world!  I got kids, family, people in my life!  #damnit

This is MY manifesting me challenge!  I encourage you to create yours!  #whyNOT

Maybe it is taking a moment out of your day to just be, or lighting a candle each night before bed, diffusing oils at your desk, knitting a little each day, painting, walking, dancing…name it!  Only thing to remember is that it has to be from within.  Taking a class or going out with friends does not serve to manifest in this way.  Internal work is needed to manifest which results in shhhhh or in other words #shutthefup

It is no surprise to me that 21 day detoxes many of us do time and again!  I am no scientist, but whatever happens at the 21st day mark is like a body symphony!  Suddenly you realize that this is how you are supposed to be.  No aches, pains, sleeping & having energy are often the outcome at day 21!  You almost wake up & bam feel like a new person, but someone you have met before!

In 2012, I began my Wahls Warrior journey. Prior to that I was gluten free and had done several 21 day protein shake based detoxes and those results are what spearheaded my search for how to use food as medicine. Thankful my search found Dr. Terry Wahls Ted Talk and here I am little miss conscious eater!

The most amazing thing about my search was food as medicine was not what I was learning.  Stop using food as poison was the clear message!  #ohitgetswild

Once I removed processed big bigness foods, products, medicines and toxic exposures from my life Multiple Sclerosis became a long lost friend. 

Prior it was the family member who was out of control in every way possible. 

MS took my life existence for many years.

MS took my ability to live pain free uninterrupted for over 5+ years.

MS took my eye sight.

MS took my ability to use my hands bilaterally.

MS took my ability to swallow.

MS took my ability to drive, ride a bike and walk.

MS took my ability to remember to use the ladies room.

MS took my ability to play the piano, golf, needlepoint, sew and many things I loved to do.

MS took my friends, family and partners.

MS took my entire life savings.

MS took my ability to live alone.

MS took my ability to be self sustaining.

MS took my ability to no longer be able.

Now that I stop supporting big business & big pharm by questioning my status quo...

I own my life.

I have no pain.

I see very clearly.

I use my hands bilaterally.

I swallow.

I have full bladder function.

I live alone.

I have a Masters in Psychology with a focus on Community & working toward becoming self sustaining again!

A 21 day detox of any kind is a good place to start, but if you want a miracle life that you manifest this should be seen as the beginning and the beginning only.

Imagine what my life is like for me right now?

I am not kidding PLEASE give me one freaking second and re-read that list above about my life with MS.  Imagine when all of that is happening to you at once.  #hopeless

I freaking wake up every day in shock that I am a walking freaking MIRACLE!

If I am not mistaken history has shown that no one recovers from MS.  In fact, MS is the 2nd largest reason folks are in state institutions in the US and the 2nd youngest population!  #damnit

Somehow I have kicked this shit to the curb and continue to do it every day! #proudofME

If you are doing a 21 day and feel amazing (as you should) would you consider doing it again and make the next one a 45 day?  How about again with the next one a 60 day?  Each time make it more than food? Consider beginning to question the status quo for real.  Maybe look at your cleaning products, cosmetic and skincare and read what the ingredients are and what they mean.  #liveconsciously

PaleoBOSS Lady's smoothie game is relatively new starting in October 2014! I did a short stint with a nutritionist around 2010-2011 focused on whey protein.  Other than that I've never really understood when and how to introduce a smoothie into my diet. #ohitgetswild

I have been a Wahls Warrior for over 1100+ days!  This lifestyle change resulted in an eating pattern change that has me really consuming about two meals a day.  Eating a high fat diet my body does not require more than that.  This makes it hard for me to get all the vegetables and nutrients I need daily. My NutriBullet smoothies have become essential in helping me achieve my Wahls Warrior status regarding veggies! #9cupsaday

Even if you're not following The Wahls Protocol for many of us getting the proper amount of vegetables can be a challenge! A smoothie can provide a delicious and easy alternative! #yippee

Those following a ketogenic diet requiring large quantities of fat I have found coconut milk based smoothies help me to maintain my level of ketosis without using dairy. This is critical for me during my Wahls Protocol Plus phases.

Cacao Berry Blast:

1 cup of greens & frozen organic berries

1/2 avocado

1/3 can coconut milk

3 tablespoons of cacao powder

1 teaspoon of vanilla, turmeric & cinnamon

filtered water

Whip till smooth & creamy!

Chocolate Peppermint Cacao Nib Smoothie:

2/3 can full fat coconut milk

1/2 cup of cacao powder

1/4 cup cacao nibs (1/2 in smoothie 1/2 on top)

1/2 avocado

9 ice cubes

filtered water

5 drops peppermint essential oil

Blended for about 60 seconds! Pour into Mason Jar and sprinkle with remaining nibs!

Strawberry Chia Seaweed Smoothie:

2/3 can full fat coconut milk

1 cup of frozen strawberries

1 teaspoon seaweed flakes, cinnamon & turmeric

2 tablespoons chia seeds

1/2 avocado

How To Meditate in 5 Easy Steps

By: PaleoBOSS Lady® The first time I made a conscious effort to start meditating was 1996. I just suffered a severe Multiple Sclerosis attack and was desperate to find calm within the storm. I bought tapes, books and magazines and devoured as much information as I can find.

At the time I was living in Delaware and access to holistic intentions like this were often difficult to access community. So off I went to the Golden Door in Escondido, California. During my time at the Golden Door active daily participation in medication classes happened coupled with much internal 'work'.  The beauty of this was each day students were offered various forms of meditation.  By the end of my week stay I had several variations in my "Bag of Tricks!"

The key to success for me was to continue the practice and identifying how to best accomplish this.  It's funny because only recently has my mindset regarding meditation changed.  A conscious effort to meditate is not a meditation practice.

A practice of meditation comes without effort and is commonplace in your life.

Today, PaleoBOSS Lady® meditates using several variations all based on the day, the moment and the intention. The greatest thing about meditation is learning and accepting the myth of sitting down in a cross-legged position and chanting is bull shit.

Meditation can be done however you define and that is the most empowering message of all!

How to Meditate in 5 Easy Steps:

1. Spend time figuring out how to be most comfortable enabling you to eventually achieve the goal of quieting your mind. Quite honestly this can be any way you want! Sitting, standing, lying, legs up, legs down, cross-legged even walking is acceptable regarding meditation.

For me personally this position evolves and changes. Living in constant conversation with your body allows for this with ease. You may identify several positions that work for you based on these conversations. The key is to listen for the answer.

2. Find the space that works for manifesting a quiet mind during a practice. Consider the space sacred for at least the time the meditation is happening. Your sacred space can be different and evolving just as you practice is.  However, setting an intention within the space is a critical element that remains regardless.

I often find once I locate the space certain elements within the space are essential to the mindset to have the space feel sacred. Lightening candles, diffusing essential oils,  listening to music or sounds playing in the background  & even being out doors works.  Many times I find myself yearning for the sound of air & the feel of sun, wind or rain on me as the sacred space.

Incorporating elements to enrich the experience should also be part of the conversation when creating your sacred space.  Be comfortable asking yourself what makes your space comforting to you!  No body, but you and for that moment!

3. Download an app with a meditation timer! I love this and it makes it easy because many of them offer wonderful meditative sound effects to start and end your practice. I personally use Insight Timer and love how it shares how many other people worldwide are meditating with you! The power community once again speaks with this little feature in the app!

In lieu of downloading an app, I recommend getting a timer and/or a bell to be used to start and stop your practice. Little gongs and triangles are often used once again personal preference is essential.

4. Start slow without expectation beyond commitment! I recommend starting with a five-minute commitment for at least three days a week. It is recommended that you not be fully awake when engaging in your practice. Typically I've consumed about half a cup coffee before meditating. Define what this means for you and for many the state of mind needed to accomplish a successful practice happens before going to bed. No rules here just breath and quiet your thoughts.  If your mind is busy no pressure.  Just remind it that it is quiet time!

Gradually and at a sustained pace increase your time. There are no rules beyond honest conversation that continues on a path of self growth that often feels uncomfortable coupled with real commitment to quiet the mind!

This should be a lifestyle change and not a short-term resolution. Therefore there is no race to the finish and often slow and steady is the best way to roll.

5. Change your mindset or fake it till you make it regarding meditation. A conscious life requires balance and with balance comes daily large doses of self-care. To include dedicated time to a meditation practice should never be an issue when you are living a conscious life.

I know you're all thinking sounds great in theory, but there's this thing called life!

I honestly have to tell you that the first step of a conscious life is realizing what's important for you to manifest your life. Some of you may not believe meditation is important or needed. I am not going to argue this point.

The only way to find out is to allow for 30 to 60 days of some form of commitment to a practice and see. Science, personal experience and history have shown that meditation increases quality of life for those practicing. What you have to lose?

How to Kick Fear Out For Good...

"I would like to think this all started when I first became sick, but the reality is I was born into fear." 

The fight or flight mentality that most of us experience during intense times of life have been present in my life since birth. So many of us born into dysfunctional, addictive  and abusive families live in fight or flight from infancy into adulthood.  Many of us living this emotional reality for a lifetime.

This certainly held true for PaleoBOSS Lady® for the first 40+ years of her life! #truth

For the 2nd half of my life I lived in fear of a disease whose track record had shown to leave its victims:  alone, penniless, homeless, bedridden and/or institutionalized.

Fear is that the only thing in my life that I could count on!  #damnit

Until it stopped serving me… #f*cker

In 2006,  I directed my life to began ownership of self rather than a fear driven existence.  I knew without this drastic change of the status quo my life was headed for disaster! #writingonthewall

I literally packed up my bags and moved to Beverly!  #venice

Fast-forward and here I am a living miracle whose life is no longer motivated by fear!  #applause

This outcome did not happen by accident, easily or without consequence.  Fear in our culture is used as a tool in almost every interaction we have. #bam

The final removal of fear for my life was the biggest jump I had ever taken!   The outcome of this jump has granted the biggest leap of my life to date and responsible for PaleoBOSS Lady®  becoming her own miracle!

Without removing fear from my person being a miracle could not happen! #heardithere

Below are steps outlining how to kick fear to the curb & gone from your life for good!  These steps are based on psychological principles that produce effective outcomes.

Roll up your sleeves & lets get conscious!  #jumponit

7 Steps to Kicking Fear Out of Your Life for Good:

1.   Agree to own your life!   That means 100%!  A conscious reality removes fear from daily existence.  This does not mean to no longer be able to "ride the wave of life" or "go with the flow: it means to be aware of your standards so that the "ride" and the "flow" match your identified moral obligation and person.  All the time.  Always. Without question.

2.   Surround yourself with community!   Community matters so much across so many areas in life!  Building many different communities to support your conscious existence removes a tendency toward fear.  The power of community has been known to create miracles since the beginning of time.

3.   Get moving!  Energy that sits in the body becomes toxic waste. Movement, sweating, deep breathing and pushing oneself past your comfort zone are essential to kicking fear out of your life!  Done alone, in a group or with community movement is critical to understanding fear and eliminating fear!  Some of the most harmful toxins live in our bodies & a good sweat often must happen to remove them without question.

4.   Bye-bye toxic people! Now it's time to look at every single solitary relationship for its mutual value in your life.   This exercise often can be the hardest because we find that the majority of people in our lives are toxic. Leave personal judgement at the door & get serious with yourself.  

I found this a HUGE challenge and chose to hibernate and walk away from everyone for 6 months indoors and slowly connecting with others over the next few years to the present day. This becomes even more challenging when those relationships are familial or long-standing. Without removing & limiting exposure to toxic people fear will continue to grow as if it were in a petri dish.

5.  Love yourself! The only way to fake it till you make it in this regard is to truly "put yourself 1st!" Above all others and without fail!  I'm not kidding and this is no joke! There are many times you may find your self fatigued, mentally exhausted or just not in the right place overall to do something that is expected  and you still do it. Stop it!  Most often our body is telling us something and we need to pay attention!  The longer we stop listening the more reason we have to be fearful. Listening means loving and working in harmony with our person mentally & physically!  Fear literally has no where to go when you truly love yourself!

6.  Slow the F down!  Somehow our subconscious life has taught us time is our enemy! Time is on our side and we are best served enjoying the seasons, going for long walks and allowing for afternoon naps! This should replace the current reality of  then running on little sleep, never seeing sunrise or sunset and seldom taking vacation/time off from life!   The art of consumerism alone is what drives our pace today!  A conscious existence  should result in an immediate ability to enjoy small pleasures and slowing your role.

7. Manifest your life!   This is the most important and challenging part of kicking fear to the curb!   The point where you become certain of your path, your purpose and your role and now set out to affirm its reality. Manifesting can only happen when doubt and fear are completely removed from your being and on every level.   This work is focused and conscious!  Manifesting requires time dedicated with concentrated effort focused on potential outcomes that produce life dreams!

My father  always told me, "I could do anything I wanted if I put my mind to it!" I have always believed this dating as far back as the second grade, but somehow for most of my life Multiple Sclerosis keep winning!  No matter how hard I tired to believe my Dad!  I began to question the mantra that had always proved true throughout my entire life that hard work equals results!

I remember learning about the power of fear in a Narrative Therapy class in my BA  program. For the first time in my entire life I was able to see fear within me and the power it had. From that moment on I knew this was the missing piece for me to hold true the mantra my father always told me! I had to overcome FEAR!

Since overcoming fear my life daily is experienced in an elevated state of goodness! These are not words of a Southern California 'hippie', but words based around life experience!   A conscious existence that produces manifested realities can be nothing short of Nirvana!   Not a single argument will ever prove this not to be true in anyone's life from the lens of PaleoBOSS Lady®!

The final hurdle for this gal to remove fear for my life focused 100% primarily on my health care team! Imagine what a challenge it is to realize toxicity lies within the team entrusted with your wellness?   With all of the above steps in place I was able, with the help of community, to finally say to 'goodbye' to fear and hello to life!

This week I am celebrating 1 year of being 100%  fearless!  #holla

The decision to jump and manifest my life reality has produced a miracle and it is me!  Almost daily my life offers me concrete signs that fear is gone and dreams do come true!   It is amazing what happens when life gives you what you bring to it!

Without fear life is no longer a waiting game and no longer a power struggle!

Life is all about living it to the fullest, all day, every day! #howiroll

PaleoBOSS Lady's Top 10 Travel Tips for Warriors!

1.  Preparation is key to any successful trip that includes following the protocol. Just like daily 'non-vacation' living requires Warrior planning travel does too and actually tends to step this need up a peg.  #damnit

No complaining allowed because you are on vacation and planning more seems like an oxymoron.  Consider the alternative is all I am saying.   #bossladyhere

2.  Consider accommodations that offer a kitchen. With many travelers using Airbnb & VRBO this reality is easy & economical to make happen.  This option has offered PaleoBOSS Lady  at least one compliant meal a day on average and always a safety zone when finding meals out an impossible task.  Not to mention the savings traveling this way!  #nirvana

3.  When staying at a hotel call and ask for a small refrigerator to be put in the room.   Many if not most hotels do this on a regular basis.  This way you can keep items on hand that are compliant if you are traveling with your own food of any kind.

4.  Pack a travel kit of hard to find items or must haves!  Many times PaleoBOSS Lady has shipped ahead items to a vacation destination!  Makes a huge difference and most travel destinations have no problem receiving deliveries!  #ohitgetswild

5.  If you are like me & love food many vacations have 'destination' dining spots on the list of must do's.  When an eating event is known way in advance than call the restaurant.  Be honest & tell them how food is your medicine  and it can easily turn into your poison and can they help you?  It seems that anywhere, but in LA the answer is always yes!  #ohyesidid

6.  The secret is in the planning?  A Wahls Warrior needs to plan vacations with food, mindfulness and movement accounted for on the itinerary.  #notestep1

7.  Search the internet for recommended spots that are Paleo or Wahls compliant.  More and more are popping up & I recommend looking at the latest food bloggers websites.  Especially if they have just published a cookbook because many of them are touring around for signings posting the food spots they are hitting during the tour! #bam

8.  Lighten up a little and don't get yourself crazy over food not being cooked in the right fat for a few days!  Not going to lie and say after a while this does not bother me because I do notice when I am not living optimally.  How I extend this outcome is by increasing my movement and mindfulness work during vacation! Not to the point of being out of balance, but I may add a little extra breath work or longer meditation time.

9.  Planning is essential to being a successful Wahls Warrior!  #refertosteps1and6

10. Don't travel to places that do not offer you optimal best life living options unless you have no choice.  I know in an ideal world we want to be able to go everywhere and see it all, but this reality is not realistic and that is that.  #SoBOSSy

PaleoBOSS Lady has been a living miracle as a Wahls Warrior for over 1000 days and it does get easier over time, but it is not easy!  Nothing about living with disease is easy!  

Anywhere I go I always have something like a bag of nuts, almond butter packet, a bar or fruit on my person so that I will never go hungry.  Long gone are the days of panic because there is nothing I can eat.  #learning

Never does a situation happen that I starve, but I have been out and unable to eat what was being served.  This used to make me mad until I changed my lens.  Now I feel more empowered to promote the movement by example as I am reminded that so many are still blind to the self poisoning our food system is causing their bodies!

Not a day goes by that PaleoBOSS Lady does not hear that she has inspired, engaged or empowered someone to live consciously and that is the greatest joy of all!   No longer does PaleoBOSS Lady get mad when being a Wahls Warrior is hard instead it reminds me of how important my mission as a warrior really is! #teachbyexample

Words will never express the gratitude I feel to have been the one to open the symposium!  I still cannot believe this & that I am my own miracle! Enough already!

From the moment we looked into each others eyes for the 1st time we knew.  Each of us knew the other

like we have for a lifetime. None of us needed to share anything to get to this place!  

One of the most magical experiences of my life happened at the symposium with the above two sentences describing it!  We all knew Dr. Wahls would empower us, but the community that happened, the family that developed and the spirit that remains are beyond forethought of any kind.  We became a family as soon as we met eyes!  #universally

The location of the event at http://prairiewoods.org set the tone from the word go!  This magical venue offers a very Frank Lloyd Wright feel with the indoors coming in!  Complete with meditation room, outdoor patio and a labyrinth the venue was an outstanding choice with lodging and meals available to several of our travelers.

The kitchen at Prairiewoods and Rodney the manager are the icing on the cake!  Volunteers cooked the most amazing, Wahls complaint food for all of us to enjoy and be inspired by!  Served with love and treated with care every step of the way are what all of us encountered at this facility! Rodney is quite simply the greatest life energy you could ever imagine making us feel at home every step of the way!  #Bravo

Having an intimate setting and the presence of Dr. Terry Wahls for 1.5 days

was a nirvana moment for all of us.  

Dr. Wahls took attendees through a handful of functional medicine forms that are used to draw a roadmap regarding our life and the significant events that have taken place.  Many of the events noted question the status quo and step outside of the questions a 'traditional' doc would normally ask!

Were you delivered vaginally?  

Did you experience a lot of antibiotics in your life?  

What type of fillings do you have?  How many?  

Any emotional trauma in your life?  

All drawing a picture that often shows a path of repeated abuses.  Which will need to be healed at the cellular level to create change of disease course.  Symptom management is not offering this option and that is the basis of traditional healthcare today. The Wahls Protocol is designed to aid in cellular healing! #BAM

The Wahls Protocol is designed to offer optimum nutrient density to aid and promote healing through the food you eat.  For several hours Dr. Wahls talked about how this is done and gave detailed information supporting the book. All attendees were able to ask questions during a daily Q&A that addressed anything from food as medicine to types of shoes to wear!

Every attendee was given a roadmap to maximize their efforts toward wellness using The Wahls Protocol (TWP).  It was noted that many arrived participating at some level regarding food, but very few focused beyond food.  TWP is much more than food and Dr. Wahls stated this quite often!

We were taken step by step through a stress relieving self massage and encouraged to continue to identify ways to incorporate these types of activities into daily life.  In addition, Dr. Wahls stressed yoga, the water, Pilates, Sauna and Electric therapy.  In addition to ice paths, bone broth &  strengthen training being noted as vital to success.  Focus on how  to keep muscle mass up to maintain wellness.  Dr. Wahls suggested meeting with a physical therapist to get a plan in place.  No matter what get moving was a clear message! #daily

Each step of The Wahls Protocol involves talking with your doctor.  Dr. Wahls offered insight into how you can educate your own doctor to her findings and those in functional medicine.  Dr. Wahls shared how often a doctor may not be receptive suggesting  ways to help manifest change.  #ByExample

In addition, Dr. Wahls spoke about the people in your life and how important this element is!  She stressed toxins are not only in food.  You need to surround yourself with those who are supportive and understanding of your life, person and situation.  Community matters and was stressed as well.

I am certain that if anyone came to the symposium without community left with community!  #Magic

Finally the message was about creating a plan and sticking to it!  100% no questions asked and just do it!  No 80%, no cheat days, no nothing!  Compliant and that is it.  In order to do that set baby hurdles knowing you will get there.  Maybe just give up gluten 1st!  Maybe sugar.  #DoSomething

Developing a road map and journaling this offers a path to success that has changed Dr. Wahls life and many others.  Nothing happens overnight, but hard work does pay off.  The future is bright for all of us as we continue to learn about how food heals with leaders and visionaries like Dr. Wahls leading the way!

So many sponsors and give aways it was like Christmas!  Everyone went home with a present and that was so well thought out!  Discount codes and support at every turn were a constant theme felt and encountered!  Dr. Wahls was accessible, supportive, loving, warm, smart, funny and a real trooper answering question after question from a room full of eager healers!

The Board of Directors of which I am  a part of consists of simply the greatest group of people you could ever imagine!  This event was my 1st in person meeting & my heart is overflowing with love, respect and admiration! #WeRock
